There will be no less than 5 Lego sets under the tree this year.

Every year I go to visit family in California, my youngest nephew and I make a trip to the Lego store, and it seems each set gets bigger and more expensive. Last year I got him the motorized Star Wars AT-AT Walker. We spend entire evenings putting them together with me doing most of the complicated stuff. My sister always gives me a hard time because she says I'm worse than her son. Looking forward to seeing him this January and our trip to the store to see what we get next.

He eventually uses all the legos from past sets to build forts and stages little battles. He has quite the imagination sometimes 🙂

I never got into Lego myself but my kids have most of the Star Wars, Harry Potter, Ninjago, Alien Invasion, and City collections thanks to their grandpa. They are still getting more this Christmas.

Lego Technic is where it's at. I can't stand all their branded stuff (though Lego Star Wars stuff can be cool sometimes). Lego Mindstorms is also pretty freaking sweet (look up some videos on Youtube of the crazy things you can do with it).

On my wishlist right is their new "Supercar" model, http://www.amazon.com/Lego-8070-Tech.../dp/B004P9GOAC (actually can be bought cheaper at Toys R US). I had their older version of this (released in 1999 as I recall, worth more now than it was when I bought it) and it is a really sweet model. Even has a working transmission.

Plus Lego pieces last for a long time, so while they are a bit expensive, they are quality toys.

much love for legos...even though i am stepping on little pointy bits a lot. have always loved them and have a lot of the star wars ones for myself. my son isnt in to star wars yet ( i know i know, i still love him tho, ahahaha) but he likes all the little lego people and has 4-5 of them in his pockets at all times.
🙂

Keep this up every year and you'll be the best dad ever.

One of these lonely Christmases, I'm gonna drop like $500 on legos for myself, clear everything out of my apartment (for maximum square footage, which I call "imagionation-space"), invite all my buddies over for the afternoon the day after, and we're gonna spend all evening dreaming it our way. Now tell me that wouldn't be the MOST fun you've ever had at a post-Christmas party.

Damn kids these days with actual sets of what you are supposed to build. 😛

All we had back in the day was a big container of them and then you build whatever you want, usually spaceships. 😛

But this was one of the things my brother commented when he had his first kid also that he gets to play with again.

Its funny, I always wanted the big expensive sets, but now realize I made my own more elaborate and awesome things. I made a few badass castles. Even did some crafting to make the people more awesome.

I did always want a pirate ship too though.

I don't consider the Legos now to be the same as when I was a kid just 12 years ago. There were none of these specifically cast items or blocks. You had a bunch of different pieces and you could make whatever you wanted out of them.

That said, I think my parents have a rubbermaid box in storage somehwere full of my old legos that they're going to give to me when I have kids. It's a massive collection with no rhyme or reason. Kid wants to build something, he better do it on the fly without directions.

Lego still sell the big boxes of basic shapes.
