Ok I remember maybe 2 years ago (possibly 1) where I read an article talking about maybe sony releasing a laptop with a new battery technology superceeding Li-ion batteries. There was one disadvantage though, it would discharge immediately after the power source was gone but provided good battery life (go figure). I haven't heard of it since and it had some sort of variation of R,D and M or something like that in the name but I'm unsure, it just reminded me of RDram. Any ideas? Just wondering where the technology went, it's not a lead based or nickel based battery to my knowledge.

well, i have read about a new battery technology that i think (IIRC) is similiar to the Li-ion types. But i have never read about it being discharged when power source was gone. There was this article about a year (or less) ago stating that this new battery type was going to bring around 2 times the length of time for everything (laptops, digital cam...). The article stated it would be in market in around 1 year or so...(1 year, which is supposedly be somewhere between now and 4 months)

google it, you'll see soon that if our cell phones are low on 'juice' we can pee on it to power it up again.

Ick. So what, special pockets in your pants for your cellphones? Heck with a car charger. Now you've got a crotch charger!

(Sorry, I know that was OT.:))

Its called lithium polymer batteries (sorry spelling) it has somewhat higher energy density than li-ion and can be made into very thin or odd shapes. if you google it you'll find more info.

Toshiba has a new one that will be great, if devices w/ integrated batteries start using it. It's just a LI/LP battery, but can charge to full in around 30-45 minutes. Even without high density, that's some cool stuff. Pkug your laptop in while you're eating lunch, and it's fully charged for the rest of the day when you're done. It'll be especially cool in DAPs, where you can't just pop a new battery in (actually, that's why I got one that uses standard batteries--but if it was an hour to charge, instead of 4-6, I'd have gone small and sleek, instead).
