Hum? any ides here fellas. Its on my secong hard drive. I recive this message when trying to use maxtors Formatting utility.

I know why it says this. I accidently disconnected this drive while copying files. Ooops.

Is there a way to fix this?

um, format........... Maybe norton system works might be able to do it, but I kind of doubt it.

How did you disconnect it while it was on??? The HD or the whole computer???

dam is this thing RMA time or what?

I was copying from C: to D: and then decided to exit. But the program did not really warn me. What should I do now?

thanks
Shawn

Do you mean there are too many files in the root directory?

A limitation back from the good old DOS days, you can only store 256 files in the root directory of any windows disk, hard disk or floppy. Make folders and store your files in folders to solve this.
Never store anything other than the files windows needs in your root directory.

ok as you can see im no pro. but would a low level format work? i tryed a regular format but it was still not seen/read in windows 98se

im low lever formating now actually. i really hope this helps. the drive is 1 month old. 🙂

Look in the root of C:\ there's probably tons of junk in there, delete some of it & you'll be able to create directories after.

"if you attempt to to low level format a modern post 1993ide drive, the drive will simply ignorethe low level format and the program will run adn report a successful low level format, but in actuality nothing would have happened. however , most early pre 1993 ide drives will be destroyed!"

just something i read recently...lol
