There should be a law stating that no Christmas decorations can go up until after Thanksgiving

I swear each year it gets earlier and earlier with the Christmas decorations. Some people around here had them up before Halloween.

Kinda kills the mood...

I went to Wal-Mart and Lowes the day before Halloween, both with Christmas displays prominent and Christmas MUSIC playing. WTF IS THAT.

My neighbor is putting his lights up right now, and there's a few other houses that are putting up theirs as well. 🙁

As a whole, people need to chill out with holiday stuff. They start putting shit out for them like 2 months early now. I actually like holidays, but I don't need to be reminded that they're on the way. It ends up killing the spirit of it to me. 2 weeks is more than fine.

As much as I hate this, we can't really outlaw something that just boils down to opportunism on the part of retailers and bad taste on the part of individuals.

I never put up any Christmas decorations until the day after Thanksgiving (this year it will be the Monday after, as the wife and I will be out of town that weekend).

no, set the date at november 15th. although i already have one set of lights up and a fake little tree on a table.

i  christmas more than anything, might as well enjoy it for a month and a half.

Ugh, went to Starbucks today and they had all the decorations up. Asked the cute coffee girl about it, she says K-Mart had theirs up a month ago! Sigh.

lights go up weekend after thanksgiving and come down new years day (or whenever my hangover goes away). People who put decorations up before then or leave them up after should be shot

I just want to know why Xmas stuff was on display at some stores before Halloween stuff was.

Because Christmas sells more stuff. When I worked in retail for a summer, we started organizing Xmas stuff in July.

I saw a neighbor with a Christmas tree up in their front window yesterday! I think it's just ridiculous. :disgust:

I'm a Christmas freak... I could put up with it year-round. That's my thing.

That said... what about those people that put up light displays for Halloween? Valentine's Day? July 4th? Do you think that they could not be displayed outside of the "Christmas Season"?

Also, it takes many people well over a month to set up their display(s)... some start in mid-October, and then don't light up until Thanksgiving night.

I can see why retailers want to put them up so early....get people in the Christmas spending spirit and bring in revenue earlier. But households putting them up now, that's stupid. This trend keeps up, we'll start seeing Christmas trees in July.

putting up Christmas lights when its 10 below sucks, so yes i will put them up today.

*only doing the outdoor lights and not turning them on again til december

There should be a law against complaining about christmas decorations. It seems like people complain earlier and earlier every year.
