Imagine animals like birds or frogs with their loud songs or croaks, or birds of paradise that have all kinds of ornate feather displays. They're just going to crazy and outlandish lengths to get attention in the hopes of scoring a mate. Some of them are evolutionary burdens too. If you're a delicious meat-filled bird, being bright red and orange might make it pretty easy for a predator to find you. You're going into war, but you've been outfitted with something sparkly from a Vegas showgirl's wardrobe. And worse, advertisers think their product is more meaningful than a movie's main action sequence.
Is your home theater properly calibrated? I've never experienced that problem with mine.
Sounds like you have your subwoofer set too high in the first place.
Just because it goes to 11, doesn't mean it SHOULD be at 11.
My Paradigm I typically set to 4 of 11, iirc. You should be able to have the rest of the speakers quite loud before the house is rattling due to excessive subwoofer usage.
My setup is not professionally calibrated, but I do have my crossovers set up to match the speaker sizes. My center channel is +3dB to help with dialogue. And no, my subwoofer is not maxed out, from what I remember it's set to about half the maximum power - just enough to hear the base while listening to music and most movies, but not enough to rattle your chest or anything in the house. Watched X-Men Days of Future Past two days ago, and for the most part the sound was good, I could hear the voice track just fine, explosions were just a tad too loud, but overall I'd say that movie had a good sound mix. Yet, quite often I come across badly mixed movies that just defy the common sense, Transformers is a good example, the sound effects are just way too freaking loud in relation to the speaking volume.
We have enough here let's start a petition or something stupid and get this changed! If we get that Star Trek guy that uses lens flares every minute we can make people aware. Who's in?!
Or the (old) teal&orange problem.HA! I noticed that in the first Star Trek movie and now I see other movies mimicing it! Next thing you know that bass drop will be in all action movie commericals...too late!
