I ate lunch at a diner in a small local neighborhood one day. I was by myself, so I sat at the counter.
I noticed a young blind man sitting about three seats away to my left. I could tell he was a regular by his conversation with the woman behind the counter.
I'll never forget what happened next.
Upon paying his bill, the woman behind the counter handed him his change. She called out each bill as she did so.
As he received each bill, he carefully folded it and placed it in his wallet. I could imagine all the bills in his wallet, each one folded differently to represent the denomination.
It may seem like an insignificant observation, but for some reason I can still clearly see the entire scenario in my mind's eye.
I never went to that diner again, but I think of that young man from time to time.
