I hate people that stutter. I just want to slap them to see if it helps........

If you slapped me, you would spending the next two weeks in intensive care.

Or he could run away as you tried to spit out a one-liner before the reckoning.

You're both going to hell

Obviously.

not sure if you know or not, but they've come out with this device to help you stop stuttering and it's about 95% effective. it's a little earpiece that plays back in your ear what you're saying, but at a different pitch. it makes your brain think that you're talking along with everyone else or something and stops you from stuttering.

look into it.

What is it?

You made it up.

Are you on drugs or are you just a jackass?

I'm part of the National Jackassary Foundation, which we inappropriately call the NJA.

Is it as bad as Stuttering John from the Howard Sern show ??

I used to stutter a bit when I was younger but I learned to control it very well.
Whenever I feel like I'm about to stutter, I pause, then continue...works quite well for me.
Plus, confidence helps aot.

he is no longer stuttering john. he now goes by his real name, john melendez, and is the announcer for the tonight show with jay leno. needless to say he has his stuttering almost 100% under control.

so is stuttering mental, physical or both? it is definately mental as the more people think about it the worse it gets. if it is also physical then what is the medical explanation?

off to google

I know who you're talking about. I usually don't stutter that much, but I emphasize "usually."

I've had several stuttering professors. In one case it was quite severe, but he was still really awesome, so we all just got used to it. In general, I don't think people think as badly of you as you mighht fear. A few asses will, of course.... but most people will not really care other than wanting you to feel comfortable.

I have a slight stuttering problem as well.

There are also times where I want to say a word, but it just doesn't want to come out, and I stand there trying to force my brain to make me say it. Is that also a part of stuttering?

thats pretty much my situation, i don't think people really notice it but i know its there and it bugs me

I'm an extremely fake person, so I tend to act like those around me. Adapt to the situation, you know.

Well when I was younger, I had a boss who stuttered. And after about 3 months, I had picked up his stutter without even noticing it or thinking about it. I felt really bad about it, he must have thought I was mocking him.

I don't have the stutter anymore though.

Good grief, the devices are expensive. http://www.speecheasy.com/devices_models.html

Over $4000 🙁

Is there any way to convert an mp3 player with a mic port into somethign similar? All they do is record your speech and play it back a fraction of a second later. I say we get a fund started and offer a prize to anyone who can create such a hack.

to stop being made fun of for the rest of your life, i think $4000+ is a fair price to pay.

rumor: people get used to it, and it slowly stops helping over time. there's been no long term studies about this device from someone else besides the manufacturer

In college I worked at a pizza place for a while and the head manager stuttered and had torrettes (sp?). Anyway he could not say the word Hawaiian to save his life, and because of his torrettes he would keep on trying forever. We used to be like hey Dave the red stuff is out (Hawaiian Punch) and he would be like the Haaaaaaa......Haaaaaaa.....Haaaaaaaa.....(10 minutes later) haaaaaaa......it was so cruel but so damn hilarious at the same time.

<Otto>Oh no, K-K-K-Ken is c-c-c-coming to k-k-kill me!</Otto>

Seriously, don't really notice people that stutter anymore. My grandfather stuttered when I was a kid and I just don't "hear" the stutter of other people now.

No, that was John the Stutterer. NOT John Melendez. John the Stutterer had a HUGE stuttering problem, he couldn't get anything out. It made for some hilarious soundclips, especially when they overdubbed his stuttering onto "That's the Way I Like It" from KC and the Sunshine Band.

Hmm... ridiculing someone with a stuttering problem... cop or not, you are in fact a jackass.
