I believe Buy.com is part of the MSN Holiday Promotions too. If it is, add on an additional 20%

Here is the link for the list of merchants that qualify for 20%, Buy isn't one of them. :(

I ordered mine on DEC 5th...still hasn't shipped. Normally Buy.com is good about shipping stuff, but in this case for me they really SUCK! I was hoping to get this card in and look for a Home Theater Receiver for Christmas to hook it up to. Guess I'll have to wait until after Christmas. Such is the life of a Bargain Hunter.

EDIT----

My card shipped the 18th according to their website. Two weeks to ship something in stock isn't stellar performance, but for under $140 shipped, I guess I can put up with a delay.

Don't buy it from there... Get it from staples... they have the card for 143.49 each.. buy about 7 dollars worth of other stuff... and use the 40 dollars off 150 coupon... everything comes to 110... plus tax and free shipping... :) :p :)

Link To SB Live! Platinum on Staples.com

EDIT: whoops sorry if it isn't... still 110 plus tax for a SB Live! and tv is not too shabby..

Yeah the Platinum at Staples isn't the 5.1 version. IMHO it's worth the 28 extra dollars because you get optical S/PDIF outs on the LiveDrive, software 5.1 decoding (if you need it), and also the Digital out (for Creative's speakers) supports the full 5.1 channels instead of four for the pre-5.1 Lives.

Jamey-- You should call or e-mail them. They're in stock. I just ordered it Sunday night and it shipped yesterday!

It's the Platinum at Staples , not 5.1, however I'm sure they will get them soon. So far assuming even they would have this card and PM + coupon you will not get it much better than $135. B@y.com for me = no tax, Staples = tax.

What's the difference between live, mp3, and platinum? Isn't it just the software?

The mp3 and x-gamer really don't have too many differences. The platinum 5.1 has the live drive in front, which has extra connections for optical equipment such as an Adat recorder (for recording digital music) and 1/4 mic inputs as well as a remote control and some other neat features. Also has a built-in Dolby Digital 5.1 decoder on board. ;) Very nice for watching your DVDs on your PC.

Fitzm, there are two version of the cards in the market that are promentent: the older card (xgamer,mp3,platinum) and the newer version (xgamer 5.1, mp3 5.1, and platinum 5.1). The 5.1 stands for the Dolby Digital 5.1 standard. All these cards have a built in decoder if you wish to use it. The difference between the mp3 5.1 and the x-gamer 5.1 is the software. The Platinum adds software and also includes the highly useful front panel that has TONS of inputs/outputs. It also has a remote that comes with it. The DD decoding is at best gimic feature for a PC card right now. If you want decent sound frm your PC it's gonna take a seperate HT receiver and HT speakers. Anything less is just playing around. If you go with an outboard receiver the onboard decoding isn't very useful. I did however just buy the Platinum 5.1 because of the front panel. I think that will be VERY hot. I am looking forward to seeing how useful the remote will be.

Jamey,

Buy.com does not have their own merchandise. They pass our orders on to others at (supposedly) their (buy.com's) price. Their business model is ad based, that's where they hope to make the bucks. I've been contemplating buying a 1000 shares or so, seeing as they have fallen to under $1/share. Then again, I think they might not be around much longer, like so many other etailers.

That would explain why some of your packages come in 2 days (ground), yet others take weeks to come!

Actually, it is now 9/16 ... down from their 52 week high of $40/sh. Their low is 1/2, so they are on the verge of the low now!

I can understand different warehouses, but it took 2 weeks to ship an in stock product. NOT two weeks to get it to me; two weeks to get it out of "their" warehouse. This was an in stock product for 2 weeks that they couldn't find the time to package and ship it. That isn't acceptable. I understand I won't get the majority of orders shipped ground in a couple of days, but I do expect in stock items to be shipped in 24-48 hours if THEY say it will. Buy.com has been a VERY dependable source for products, so I do not intend this blemish on their record to affect future purchases. I just wanted to make the forum aware that I had a problem getting this product shipped. It may affect a potential purchaser when deciding between getting it from buy.com or somewhere else if they need it in a hurry.
