There are more African Americans in prison system today than were enslaved in 1850

My understanding is that blacks commit ALL types of crime at a higher rate than whites, even surprising types like white collar crime, paedophilia, and serial killing which are commonly thought to be the province of whites.

Making the situation even more lopsided is the fact that Hispanics are rolled into the white category for offenders but are kept distinct when victims. Some of the mugshots I've seen listed as "white" were gut-bustingly hilarious in how obviously non-white they were. Egyptians are also categorized as white. I think a very sizable portion of whites' already low crime rates are attributable to people nobody would consider white if passing them on the street. Primarily Mestizo Hispanics.

On my iPhone so I can't verify right now but perhaps nehalem can help a brotha out (particularly regarding what I said in my first paragraph)

The true crime rate of full blooded Northern European descended folk like myself and like most people think of when you say "white" is very low. East Asians are even lower though I believe.

Some selected "white-collar crimes", which again seems to roll Hispanics into "white".

Forgery and counterfeiting - 32.9% black
Fraud 31.8% black
Embezzlement 32.4% black

Since blacks compose 12.6% of the population is would seem they are more likely to white-collar crimes.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_the_United_States#Race_and_ethnicity

Black people comprise 12.6% of the population and commit 23.3% of hate crimes, by your own admission.

You do the math.

I am doing the math dummy.

I have 5331 offenders, 54 percent of those are white, 11 percent are unknown and blacks who are 12 percent of the population committed 23% of the crimes. If a person walks out his or her door, he is close to 3 out of 4 times likely to be exposed to either directly or indirectly a racist act that will be not be committed by someone black. Now you do the math.

And let me also point something out, much of the crime committed by blacks is usually contained to a certain area. More than likely poor and high crime area. Unlike a bunch kids being mowed down because Johnny had his Xbox taken away. This delusion that crime is somehow just a black problem, is just that, a delusion.

Look up the rapes committed by blacks on white women vs. rapes committed by whites on black women.

Yea I believe one year it was as high as 37,000 black on white rapes and white on black rapes tend to hover around zero per year.

Pretty stark contrast.

Really you think so?

Hmmm lets see

White men do not want black women generally, so the idea they would look to rape one is asinine.

Black women really don't care for white men, so its not like they ever allow one to get close enough lol.

Rapes you morons have a great deal to do with exposure. You have the serial rapist but most rapes occur between people associated with each other. Black men and white women is quite common, so obviously there will be way more rapes associated between those two groups.

The "logic" of this is breathtaking.

So, if I'm reading this right, an excuse for blacks committing a lot of crimes... is that they do so in a "high crime area..."

Which means...?

All those other crimes are being committed by... whom? Elves? Leprechauns?

So the 'blacks' that you're talking about in that certain area... the very people you're tallying up as committing crimes, aren't themselves the *REASON* the area is a "high crime area"?

Again like I have pointed out, from your article

“Last year, 97% of all shooting victims were black or Hispanic and reside in low-income neighborhoods,” Kelly recently said as he lashed out against Judge Shira Scheindlin’s decision that stop-and-frisk was unconstitutional and appointed a monitor to oversee the program — a reform put on hold after the city appealed. “There were more stops with suspicious activity in neighborhoods with higher crime because that’s where the crime is.”

I don't disagree with anything you said. High crime areas are poor areas that is just a fact. Blacks have been and still are on the bottom rung when it comes to economic prosperity so they make up the bulk of these areas. I am not saying its an excuse one way or another, but unless I reside or travel through one these areas which make up a small percentage of America as a whole, the crime I will be exposed to has high likely chance not being committed by a black person.

Which begs the question why do blacks commit more crimes per capita than other races? Also how do we go about reversing this? The thing is that we have been going with the emphasis in the American justice system of punishment of rehabilitation. This is costing a lot of money and destroying people's lives. Do we need to re-look at what we are doing without people screaming that we are being soft on crime?

If you normalize the prison population based on being raised by a single mother, the racial bias drops out. It turns out that blacks are far more likely to be raised by a single mother than other races for whatever cultural reasons.

I can only assume you're going by the old standby that poor=high crime, but that's absolutely not a universal truth.

Until all of us come to terms with this being a cultural problem more than anything, it's never going to change.

there are plenty of people in this world that are MUCH poorer than the blacks in the US. their situations are a lot worse, yet they do not resort to crime. why is that?

even in the US... chinatown is a predominantly poor asian immigrant community. yet there is low crime, and we don't see the chinese shooting each other.
it's a cultural issue. not an economic one.

Why discuss numbers of incarcerated blacks today in comparison to those enslaved in the past in absolute numbers instead of as a percentage of the population? The opinions in the thread are interesting, but the discussion is worthless without first getting the facts straight.

The majority on gun murders in this country are related to gangs and drugs. So maybe the prison system has it right.

If it were just people smoking crack going about their day I would scream outrage. But there is a lot of violence associated with crack.

There is violence with other forms of cocaine, but like powder cocaine, the closer the product gets to the more well to do customer, the less violence you see.

Drug War created prohibition. Prohibition incites violence. Violence gets people put in jail.

Remove prohibition, remove much of the violence, remove much of the prison population.

Why do blacks commit crimes at a higher rate than "northern Europeans?"

There are numerous factors, some of which have been mentioned already.

Mentioned by you in this thread? I'm not interested in the opinions of others. I asked you because your participation in this thread has consisted of gleefully citing crime statistics without offering an opinion as to what causes the disparity. Perhaps I missed it somewhere.
