There any alternatives to shaving for guys?

Grrr. Was visiting my grandparents the other day and they asked if I was growing a beard. I shaved like 2 hours before that :| Get asked that pretty often. Have pasty white skin (suprised I don't glow green from sitting in front of a monitor all day) and facial hair equivilant to hair found on an ogre's ass. The combo makes it more noticible, perhaps if I was a bit tanned it wouldn't show as much.

Tried every commercial razer out there as well as all the different gels/creams. Even tried a couple of the expensive electrics (The Braun Syncro thing worked OK on the face actually, but can't get the neck at all). I get about 2-3 shaves out of a disposible like a Mach3 Turbo before the blade is all pitted and hurts like a bastard. There will be spots that looked like they weren't shaved at all, with semi-long whiskers and no matter how hard I try the razers just won't get the stuff. On top of that I have really sensitive skin and get ingrown hairs easily.

There any alternatives out there? I wouldn't want anything permanent, but would be super handy to get a close shave, or better yet, be able to go for a while without shaving.

Does the Mach3 do a good job on the first two shaves?

Also, the original Mach 3 blades apparently last longer than the turbos, so you might try those.

I only get a couple shaves per blade when I use them on my head.

The Mach3 is what I've been using (both types alternating, neither one better than the other). Very unsatisfactory results the first couple of times. But it's the best thing I've found. Tried super cheapy disposables (like 30 in a bag) and that just results in a lot of blood. Others like Schicks and stuff do worse than the Mach3s.

Grow a beard and keep it short and trimmed
I've done that before and it looks more like a Gorilla's back than a beard :( Plus the places around here where I'll be working want clean cut and clean shaven guys. Suit and tie audits :(

Remember that epilady gadget? :)

Someone stuck one of those on my arm one time, hurt like hell. Don't know how you ladies stand it.

There is laser surgery that you can get. It makes you permanently unable to grow hair on the spots that it's used on.

How long did you try the Syncro for?

It took me a week or two to get the hang of shaving my neck. Before I got the hang of it, I was like "WTF? This thing is a POS!", but I stuck with it and can get as close as a blade now...

Same thing happend to me when I first started using my Panasonic Linear. Originally I had a Norelco Advantage, but that didn't work very well. Just a few shaves and everything was good...

Used it for a month straight. Works ok on the face (actually better than blades) but does absolutely nothing on the neck. So have to basically shave twice.

I heard stuff like Nair/Nads really hammers the face. Don't want to permanently get rid of it. May be some point down the road where I'd need one and wouldn't be able to grow it :p

They don't. Many, many, many years ago I worked retail when those things first came out, and they sold like hotcakes, but had an extremely high return rate.

can you even get the electrolosis teatment on your face?

EDIT:

6. What areas can be treated?

Any area, except adjacent to the eye, where there is excess hair. The most common areas requested are the face, upper lip, neck, chest, periareolar, underarms, back, abdomen, bikini line, and legs.

I guess so :Q

The wax thing doable at home? The big problem there would be ingrown hairs from hell when they came back :|

I don't really want to do the laser/electolysis thing because it's permenant :(

From what you posted spooner, you could get it done on your goods.

Yeah My facial hair grows back in in 8 hours... i use a braun electric, and it kicks ass. It works as good as a mach3, and even gets my neck really well.

I got it for $80 on sale at target, great shaver..

electrolysis isn't the laser... electrolysis is where the stick a little needle into the follicle and zap the hair growing tissue with electricity.

Mine has the cutter foil thing (not the 3 round things). How are you guys doing your necks?
