Anyone here a psychology major? What's the career path on that look like? How do you start off when you graduate?

Well, typically you need at least a masters degree before anyone will hire you in the psych industry. You can circumvent this by having the industry experience. To be licensed, you need a PhD in most states and an MD to issue meds. A career path usually just begins with an entry-level therapist position. You get the necessary training in grad school. Starting off is just looking for a job or starting your own practice.

hope than answers some questions. It's very similar to a dentist or a doc, just for mental health.

Cheers ! 🙂

That's the 2nd funny thread title today!!!
I thought this was one was really about SNL.
What the heck is going on???

C: Buck

T: Buck? Oh that's your wager, a buck. What did you put for an answer?

C: Futter?

T: Buck Futter, I don't get it.

C: That's right buck futter!

Or something like that 😉

Yes. Career path generally starts at mcdonalds and ends up at wendys. There are no jobs for a psych major unless you have good marks and a bunch of post-grad crap. You can play around running tests on people or, if you're lucky, maybe plug some electrodes into a mouse. Do this for 5 years making no money and then perhaps you can move on to monkeys or clinical psychology :frown:

If you're serious...

I have two masters in Psych, one in Experimentla and one in Social. I go the 2nd one in a PhD program that I left for law school (1 more year till I make money). I also taught at a University for 2 years.

Unless you want to spend 12 years of your life dedicated to a job that will pay you $50-60K, IF you can get a job, and that is a BIG IF, look elsewhere for a career.

Why do you say that? Is there a job advantage working for Wendy's over McD's? Why would a McDonalds worker move on to Wendy's? 😉

i bet there is a non-compete clause so you couldn't even if you wanted to

Why wendys? Cause if you work there you can get a cut of dave thomas's inheritance. Word on the street is ronald mcdonald drank away most of his profits and has been arrested for child porn and solicitation of sex with minors. I always knew there was something about that guy...

i got my psychology degree , and promptly become a network tech. when i left college.

so it's a good degree to pursue.....
