Theory: Is this why my eyes went bad?

Well my eyes aren't that bad. When I look at far objects, they are kind blurry and I have trouble reading small texts or picking out tiny details.

But I'm interested to know why my eyes went bad. I used to have nearly perfect vision.

Yesterday, I thought perhaps it was because I put my monitor to close to my eyes. Could this be a possibility? With a 17" monitor, what is an ideal distance from the monitor surface to my eyes, in terms of ergonomics?

Your eyes went back because you read too much. you could put the monitor farther back and it wouldn't make a difference. the problem is that our eyes are not designed to be focused on detail items the majority of the time, but to be looking out farther at larger scale pictures. there is a direct correlation between hours spent reading and the need for glasses.

if you go to Korea you will notice that over 60% of the population wears glasses. it's because of the emphasis on book learning that is causing that.

funny u mention it joohang, i've been wondering the same thing myself... but i think it has more to do with the refresh rate and the resolution im running at :(

recently my eyes seem to be getting tired easily.

im on a 17" at 1280 x 1024 with a refresh of 60hz :(

I used to have 20/15 vision but when I started reading alot more in my early 20's, my eyesight started going. Now it's about 20/30 and I need light glasses for distance viewing.

I think eyesight deterioration has to do with both age and strain (such as reading a book in poor lighting conditions).

So my advice to you is to stop reading and quit getting old.

No wonder I didn't get my father's eyes. He has great distance sight. I used to when I was younger, but I guess all the reading caught up to me. He doesn't read at all. :)

ive been sitting in front of the computer from morning until 4am these past nights. i even eat in front of ATOT, and my eyes are seriously getting blurry. its really weird, i think its just that ive been focused on something for too long or that im tired. i think it will get better if i cut back on it for a little

That's stupid. It's much more sensible to be running a 17" monitor at 1024x768 at at least 75 Hz refresh rate.

If you really need higher resolution, then get a larger monitor.

My eyes starting to go bad about a year ago. I got dizzy reading a phone book or newspaper. I got a pair of reading glasses. I hadn't been to the Doctor in over 2 years but got sick last week and went to see him. Turns out I have really high blood pressure now. Started medication and now I can see much better. Go figure.

Within 6 months of sitting in front of a monitor for 14+ hours a day, several days a week, I noticed a significant decrease in my vision. In fact, I needed to up my perscription strength. After another year of sitting in front of a monitor for 14+ hour days, I needed again a stronger perscription.

A year later, I think I am due, once again, for a stronger perscription.

My mother had to wear glasses for the first time in 40 years several months after she got a desk job sitting at a computer for 8 hours day.

I think there is a direct relation between execessive (4 or more hours a day) computer usage and poor eye sight.

Stop jacking off!!!...why do you think a vast amount of men wear glasses over women?

Believe what your mother told you! That's the reason why my nympho horny male Poodle went blind! ;)

I think I am diabetic. I might see a doctor soon and see if that helps my vision.

If you seriously think you're diabetic, I suggest you get tested NOW! Diabetes can easily cause total blindness, not to mention a whole host of other problems. i.e. skin lesions, and problems asociated with poor blood circulation.

OK. I'll take it more seriously.

It runs in the family and I find myself more physically tired than others. I also recently found that consumption of sugar helped me concentrate better and I go to the bathroom more often than most people I know when I drink coffee.

And yeah, my grandma went almost blind because of diabetes.

I better go see a doctor soon. Thanks.

joohang, high blood sugars will definitely cause blurred vision. Please go see a doctor right away. Especially at your age (possibly type 1 diabetes) it is critical to know ASAP.
