Theoretically...the 'net should be faster right now!

I'm in Boston and I'm using up all the bandwidth the rest of the North East isn't using. That's why you don't feel any speed increase. :p

Your theory has some basis, but the rest of the nation is now online trying to see what happened to the East coast. So it it's a wash.

I think it's justy the North east area. Get all the facts first bud. :) Florida is fine.

And do you honestly think that datacenters don't have power backups? :D

VA is all good.

The Northeast Grid went down again, they haven't fixed it since the last time it failed in 1977. All the major cities around the Great Lakes except for Chicago are down as well as New York, south Michigan, northern Ohio and Connecticut.

Well, all the routers, switches, servers, etc on the east coast are down, too.

if that's true then they better fire these amateurs admins.
normally datarooms have backup systems for these kind of problems

What would happen to Internet bandwidth if all the spam and all the illegal downloading (MP3s, pr0n, movies, warez etc.) stopped?? And without illegal downloading, what would we do with all that bandwidth?? :p
