a ton of our imports are energy. $318 billion net imports in 2007, or 36% of all imports. we solve a couple problems by reducing our reliance on foreign oil.




as for the wiretap thing, that issue is largely in the past. a couple months ago there was a thread discussing it and someone very knowledgeable was posting a lot about it. but he was attacked for being knowledgeable by a bunch of people conflating 3 or 4 different things and claiming they were all the same.
