Tired and broke, Santorum heads home to do taxes

Rick Santorum is tired, almost broke — and going home.

The former Pennsylvania senator is taking a pause from Florida campaigning just days before the Tuesday primary that even he expects to deal him a third consecutive loss.

Santorum says he would rather spend his Saturday sitting at his kitchen table doing his taxes than campaigning in a state where the race for the Republican presidential nomination has become a two-man fight between Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney.

The cash-strapped candidate acknowledges that he simply can't keep up with the GOP front-runners in Florida.

As despicable as I find Santorum both on bigotry and corporate corruption as the former host of the right-wing establishment's weekly planning meetings, a total sellout to a lot of bad interests, I have to say I think he has a good side as well and it came out some the last few days, such as when he stood up for increasing rather than lowering taxes on capital gains. He looked better than the rest a number of times in the debates. It's unfortunate someone with some of his decent qualities isn't doing better.

While I'm happy to see Santorum lose, I don't want it to be for the reasons it seems to be, money - like a billionare casino mogul buying Gingrich a campaign.

And I don't mind the billionare casino mogul as much as industries.

Whoever wins, the American people lose from a billion dollar campaign by the winner and all the obligations that creates for the winner.

Why the Hell do you think his campaign is broke, anyway? In the realm of Repub campaign funding, advocating increased taxes on capital gains & carried interest is like advocating baby raping.

It'd be like the Holocaust or the invasion of Poland!

We're talking about a party whose leadership is unabashedly of the Rich, for the Rich, and by the Rich, remember?

Everyone should have seen the short NBC's TODAY show ran on Newt's billionaire casino mogul this morning.
Watergate Watergate HERE WE COME!!! AGAIN!!!

The money game is becoming totally disgusting, filthy, and repulsive.
Thanks to the FK-ing right wing US Supreme Court, America has been shoved face first
into a world of hurt. Nothing..."NOTHING", will ever be the same in American politics, again.

If you're the average Joe Voter, you're FK-ed. Totally and royally FK-ed.

And no... this is different from raising money dollar by dollar over the the internet for ones campaign. Or dollar for dollar from your local little fund raising bash. "THIS" is different.

Just look at Newt...
He is now completely and totally owned and operated by one... yes "ONE" individual.
And Newt, along with his buddy Mr Casino Money Bags, could possibly come dangerously close to the highest office in the land.

This time, because Newt is Newt, thank God that will not happen.
But in the future...?
Some well groomed, slick talking man (or woman) with one single billionaire casino mogul behind them might just fool even YOU into voting them into that famous oval office chair.

Just as two famous reporters were once reminded constantly during the early 1970's... "FOLLOW THE MONEY".
Yep! You're FK-ed and you didn't even know it (Yet).

Warren Buffet pays a higher tax rate than his secretary because of all the corporate tax he pays. The same goes for most people who pay the CG tax.

Of course, but you're talking about the party and the system. What does it say about Santorum taking that position as harmful as it is to his candidacy?

First of all, Warren Buffet does not pay corporate taxes, all the corporations that he has stock in are C corporations. Second, the only time the Corporate Gains tax is not 15% is short term gains (stocks held less than 1 year and sold).

Any savvy stock investor would always hold dividend paying stocks for more than a year. So after the first year, and I would suspect Warren Buffet probably has enough deductions to cancel out the 1 year short term dividend gains, his tax rate on dividends is at 15%.

I wouldn't read too much into it... Florida is an expensive state.

the only reason Newt's even competing is because of his casino sugar daddy who wrote a 10-million dollar check to his PAC.

Santorum was the worst of both worlds, a social conservative who wasn't really a fiscal conservative.

The only said thing is that there will be no more frothy mix jokes.

Maybe now he'll have time to put on a superhero suit and break into people's bedrooms to police their behavior.

Santorum, lol. Not just a name anymore. Now it's a noun!
