Thee Best Computer Specs

Alright, so a sister-in-laws mom wants me to build a computer. PRICE IS NOT A OBSTICAL.

she wants THE best stuff.

The only guidelines is she wants a INTEL. I reccomended AMD since they have 64bit for the future. Not sure if Intel caught up on that. Will be reasearching.
She does graphic stuff so she needs a pretty good videocard.

Stuff that has been proven to be compatible (ie stuff you have used and no problems) is what I would like to hear, because usually there is no clue that these components work in harmony together.

Thanks

The only thing I could suggest is an Opteron system:

Tyan Thunder K8WE
2 X Opteron 252
16GB of Registered DDR400 ECC from Corsair or Kingston
2X nVidia Quadro FX 4400 in SLI
4 X 74GB WD Raptors in RAID 10 w/ a controller card of your choice.
Case of choice. (I like the Tt Armor.)

I think we need to know what she will be using this computer for.

When people say they want the best, i don't think they realize just exactly what the best is, e.g., that beast that Kensai configured!

Since she's been blinded by the blue-man group, get her one of the 6xx series Intels, which have 64-bit capability.

But really, we need more specifics.

Sorry but if one is going to spend that on a system the Raptor is totally out of place.

Hahahaha. Realizm 800 spanks SLI 4400FX
16GB would be a waste unless she runs a server or is doing MRI/CT, and actually be slower than running 2x1GB for each CPU

and raptors aren't 'the best.' 15krpm SCSI anyone?

also there are two version of the K8WE.

Yes, thats why I really don't want to do it. I think AMD is doing better right now then INTEL.

The only 64 bit processors are the XEONS but they don't seem to impressive.

Its not the fact that amd chips are 64 bit compatable that make them faster, its just that they are designed better than the P4 is. In 32 bit apps, the A64 beats intel in nearly every single benchmark.

Ultimate monitor. 1080p is where it's at! -> 1920x1080 native res
Samsung LT-P468W

That will absolutely suck for a PC monitor. The pixel pitch is too great. For a 46" the resolution should be 7680x4320 to look acceptable.

LOL, you finally answered part of my question.
Now what is she going to be using this computer for?

DDR2 is a waste... it offers a degradation of performance and costs a lot more.

Edited above list with "decent - to - highend video card."

uh guys...

what part of "The only guidelines is she wants a INTEL" do you not understand? if she wants an intel just get her an intel.

if you get her an amd and it turns out subpar (though i doubt it will), she'll probably get pissed.

By the term "The Best"....

I think they mean a "Practical" system without the dual opterans.

A decent system would be a:

Ocz Modular Power Suply
3700 64 90nm winchester or 3000 if your overclocking
DFI Nforce 4 mobo
2x512 Corsair Value Ram
Nvidia 6800 Ultra or 6800gt if on a budget
Dell 2045 24" LCD on sale at dell (Check Hot Deals) for $860.
Logitech Mx Duo

This would be a killer system for graphics, games, and just about everything else. I picked the 3700 because of its price point. It has dropped the most in price in the recent price cut.

Ok then, ultimate gaming/movie display. ^^

Since this system obviously isn't going to be portable, there are no virtue's to getting an LCD.

$602.06 NEC/Mitsubishi DP2070SB-BK

Hers's the best 22" monitor- although at its resoulution I'm not sure how you could see anything- 3840x2400 Viewsonic

Edit: By graphics stuff do you mean workstation apps or gaming?

Dual Xeon system then. ^_^
Also, Quadro FX 4400s in SLI are awesome for the workstation environment if you've ever used them. (I loaned Enviro Canada a pair and they don't want to return them ;_; )
