My son has a lot of freedom at home. He has a lot of freedom on the playground. He has a lot of freedom where it is appropriate.

He knows what is appropriate at a restaurant. He knows what is appropriate at the movie theater. And it didn't take corporal punishment. My son has never been spanked. He has never been hit. It just takes real parenting.....

No expectation and expecting your 3 years old to behave better then 90% of the adults is a bit much if you ask me, but hey, it's your kid.

my friends and i used to piss off adults 30 years ago, except it was not in the theater. kids were always assholes and parents didn't care

Reminds me of an episode of Mad Men.
IIRC, a kid was running in his house while guests were visiting. The neighbor dad scolded the kid for running in the house. Don saw what was going on and came over. (I thought he was going to get in the neighbors face.) He asked what was going on, the neighbor told him and Don cuffed the kid in the head and told him to mind the neighbor.

That's how I remember things as a kid but then I was a kid in the early 60's. You had to mind the neighbors or they'd cuff you in the head and get away with it. Didn't keep us from doing crazy shit though.

Little girl just will NOT shut up, and the parents do nothing.

I turn around, after waiting plenty of time for them to correct the mistake on their own, and tell them to shut their stupid child up. I'm not one for tact.

Movie ends, dumb bitch dumps her drink on me, I stand up and throw mine at her. Husband (boyfriend? Not relevant, they were white trash) gets in my face about hos this was a kids movie. I reply back with "War, killing, and suffering are all part of a kids movie?"

Bitch leaves damn fast once her guy shows up, so it's just him. I tell him that what happened was complete bullshit and I leave. I get free movie ticket vouchers from theater management.

People, even if a movie IS a kids movie, that doesn't mean everyone has to put up with your children talking at their normal volume for the entire god damn show. What bothers me more than anything, though, is that those people left thinking they were in the right. THAT part infuriates me. Fucking useless, average Americans.

I do movie screenings and go to movies 3 or 4 times a week. Often children will be in the theater texting, talking, or disturbing others. What can you do about it? Pretty much nothing.

Call the usher: They will come in and tell the child to be quiet etc. Child does not listen. The usher cannot forcibly remove the child, nor can they stop the movie. The child knows they hold the power and the usher has no power. Often the child will become noisier when you call the usher or management.

Confront Child: Parents drop off their kids at the movies and expect the movie to babysit their child for hours while they play. Confronting a child will cause a drink thrown at you, more noise, or a fight. Fighting with a child will get you thrown in jail even if a child starts the fight.

The famous Shush sound: I’ve seen almost a packed theater start shushing one child. Did he stop? Nope, he got off on it and started talking more, as he now was able to make everyone go shush after he spoke.

Unfortunately, in today’s society of empowering children, you cannot discipline or remove a child without the possibility of facing numerous legal battles.

What is the answer? I’ve found that ignoring the child works best. Often they will become bored and either leave or get interested in the movie. Once I had two obnoxious children behind me who would not stop talking (yes, they were 12 year old girls). I bought them a popcorn and that shut them up. Today’s children are truly a disappointment.

Ask the parents to silence the kid. Listen carefully to learn the kid's name. Pour coke in the kid's lap. Start singing "Jenny peed her pants, Jenny peed her pants." Parents will drag crying "Jenny" out of theater.

We went to see Hunger Games the other day.
I was pleasantly surprised that no one talked or checked phones while we were there.
They had like 5 different pre-movie warnings on the screen about texting and talking and they would escort you out.

I have had my share of bad movie experiences, usually with urban trash who go to the movie to socialize instead of watch the movie.

I guess if you have a non-smartphone from 2003, it probably doesn't.. but most teens use a 4," brightly-lit LED screen turned up to "nuclear" levels, casting shadows of their awkwardly-shaped and acne-riddled heads towards the rear of the theatre.
