Ehh...

TL;DR - they used a data scraper to pull data off a public forum. That's about the least scientific way of gathering data. Start here instead:

http://www.lemonlaw.com/carcomplaintindex.html

And then bounce over to the NHTSA's website for real statistics. There are exactly zero manufacturers who don't have any hiccups, especially with a new generation of vehicles. Even Tesla has their fare share of problems.
Yes, when I said "no lemons," I should have said "virtually no lemons" (in Toyota's case).

The data seem to match up. Teslas have been problematic (and inherently unsafe) since inception.

Nobody cares. Almost no one even realizes their transmission has software associated with it's function. What everyone does know is when the car tries to kill them. A Honda Pilot or Chrysler Pacifica that decides to shift into neutral in the middle of a busy intersection has a way of getting people's attention.

Apparently the person making a comment that my response was generated towards does. Kaido stated he didn't buy a car with a zf8 because it had a lag in high gears. I said that the transmission works great and it's Dodge who needs to work on their software. Everyone in this thread knows the zf9 is a pile, though a false neutral is pretty impressive.

My bad. Re-red my comment and it comes across dickish. By "nobody" I meant your average driver. My point is we are anomalies. Car forum lurkers tend to know things about vehicles beyond what would be considered "common" knowledge.

FWIW the ZF9 is no more a pile than the ZF8 is. They both can suffer from poor programming.

I think 8, 9, and 10 speed transmissions were simply put in the market too early. In a few years they will be just as nice and smooth as a 6 speed auto. Even now some 8 speeds are very nearly as good.

Actually already better in my experience. I have yet to drive an automatic that is better than the ZF 8spd that is in 90% of European luxury cars. I am sure there are other 8+ spd transmissions that are as good or better...but I have had a lot of experience with the ZF 8spd and it is phenomenal.

The ZF 9spd is a budget, transverse mounted unit with several design compromises (from several articles I read on it). I would never buy a vehicle with that transmission.

I've read good things about GM's new 9 speed (e.g. In the Malibu).

I want to give Honda's new 10-speed a test in the latest accord.
