Well, you have to put SOME kind of OS on that system. For most people, it probably won't be linux. Gotta pay up for windows of any kind.

This is actually backwards. Some OEM computers are cheaper than building yourself figuring in all shipping and taxes. You can get a DELL computer, in some cases, cheaper than building it yourself. However, the main problem is that OEM computers have much cheaper quality parts. You don't know what you are getting. Usually people who build computers pick their parts knowing exactly what they want, so they pay a bit more.

I think most people who take the time to read these forums day-to-day, build their own rigs, talk about computers, dream about computers, overclocking, ooh, look I made a neon window, my computer is stable at 160 thz etc etc etc. The money is not the issue. Well OK, it may have started that way, but most of us are addicts, and it would take more than a 12 step program to get us off this current addiction.

Actually I started building my own because it was cheaper. Back in the day a P2 or Celeron machine was 2000 plus, but you could build a K6-2 machine for a thousand or less.

The whole point of my overclocking is to save money for me. When I got this TBird 750 a 950 was 150 dollars plus, I got the 750 for well under 100, spent 30 in cooling, and got it to the equivalent of a 950 for less money.

Just my personal opinions.
