The Wristwatch Thread

I'm wearing my Kenneth Cole watch that I got free from "test driving" a new Nissan Altima a few years ago. I love this watch.
 
On this topic, I like having my watch on my keychain so it it doesn't get caught on stuff. Anyone know of a place that has a good, reasonably cheap (ie: $20-30 range preferrable), durable, easy to read, watches? I don't need alot of frills. I just don't want it to shatter in my pocket.

In all fairness, I only paid $550 secondhand.

My favorite of my watches only ran me $150. I love its beastliness - you could drive nails with this thing.

What makes that watch worth $550-890, aside from the market value? I'm looking at it now, and I don't see any obvious indicators(i.e. bling, ice, etc).

EDIT: I'm talking about the Sinn 656, not the watch in the quote.

That's a perfectly reasonable question. Actually the Sinn is a little on the pricey side considering that it has a relatively unadorned ETA 2824-2 movement, and you can get the same movement in another handsome watch, the Hamilton Khaki, for a lot less money.

Honestly, it's impossible to justify the cost of expensive watches (and I don't consider the Sinn particularly expensive, since the larger continuum includes things like Patek Phillippes and Lange & Sohnes that cost $100K and more) from a price-performance standpoint.

In general, though, as you pay more, you get more handcrafting, higher-quality components, and more complications in movements.

The Sinn's primary charm IMO is its extreme simplicity and clarity, so I can't point to it having a solid-gold case or anything similar. What it is, is, a high-quality pilot's watch. It has an excellent stainless-steel case with sapphire crystal. Its movement is encased in a soft-iron core to optimize resistance to magnetic fields one might experience at altitude. Its design, inspired by aircraft instrumentation, is simple to the extreme, which makes it a love-or-hate proposition. Obviously I like it!
 
From a price/performance stand point, the <$5 quartz ones got everything beat. But as far as the Sinn watch, it looks like the price tag's missing a decimal point. (Just my opinion)
 
I've had a Fossil Blue for the past few years and it's treated me well. Only cost like $50 or so and people have told me that it looks nice.
 
I love watches, have about 12 of them ranging from a Rolex, Tag Hueur, Seiko (gold), to my trusty Fossil Blue watch that's just as reliable as the others. Kenneth Cole watches are my favorite, the metal bands on those are awesome and they're very reasonably priced.
