why would you call the DMV the secretary of state? I don't get it.
Depends on the state.
In Michigan, the DMV is the SoS. Same agency. Handles everything front to back.
In Minnesota, the SoS is just the voter registration people, basically. Only thing I've ever needed them for. Getting your car registered is the MV Reg department, and the DPS (department of public safety - the state police, basically) manage licenses, registration fee collection tickets, etc.
Seems kind of inefficient, actually...
As far as hating all humans:
The last time I went to the DMV, I sat there for a while, waiting. (I got there about fifteen minutes before they closed.)
It was about half an hour after the place closed that I realized a couple things:
1) Nobody was going home. The DMV employees were taking care of everybody who had shown up, regardless of how long it took.
2) I had heard every employee behind the counter speak at least two languages, and a few seemed to be functional in three or more.
3) Some of the people in line ahead of me seemed like they were functionally illiterate, retarded, or both.
That was the day I decided that all the jokes about lazy public employees might be a little unfair.
