it sure is, it's ranked 18th, that doesn't mean they know what the fuck they are doing when it comes to running a city, that just means they know how to make money. there's 7 places in the USA with higher GDP and aren't as poorly ran as SF, although a couple are close.

You might be thinking of the San Francisco Bay Area. Much of that "wealth" is fleeing the city.

*sigh* It is the easiest and probably most widely agreed upon measure of success that we have. Of course there are many ways to be successful that do not involve making lots of money, but exactly where do you measure a happy family?

I didn't say you could measure a happy family - I simply pointed out the folley of trying to claim that money==success.

The problem is that the article got your panties in a bunch because it points out the problems intrinsic to many of your ideals. For example, it seems to be a place where someone can get hired because they are of ethnicity x, but can only get fired for discriminating against someone because they are of religion y - merit (or lack thereof) isn't even a consideration in this hiring/firing scheme.

I just wish I was on the gravy train working for the city.
The saving grace you are overlooking is that SF brings in more tourist dollars than almost anywhere, in not that large a city. As a result the city govt spends (wastes) more money than anywhere else. They can at least attempt to solve problems like health care for kids and helping the homeless. They have the money. Sure most of the money is wasted on $100k city workers, but at least they are trying.

As for Newsom, not a big fan, but at least he didn't spend $1 billion fixing up city hall like his predecessor, Willie Brown.
Money papers over a lot of mismanagement, if you really want to see mismanagement, look across the bay to Oakland. Jerry Brown was a failure as mayor, as is Ron Dellums.
Bad news for Californians is it looks like Jerry Brown could be the next governor.

Even if some San Franciscans personally know how to succeed in life, what does that have to do with many of their local government policies being a major failure?

It seems this topic is about the local government, not the happiness of the successful portion of the local populace. Or did you not get that part?

The only victims of San Francisco were that entire family that was assassinated by an illegal immigrant....An illegal immigrant who had been arrested many times for breaking numerous laws including weapons violations but was shielded by the city because of their "sanctuary city" policy.

To clarify, you didn't point out AN example, you said it was the ONLY example (i.e. "the only victims of San Francisco... "). And it was completely unrelated to the anything in the OP's article, so we all know now that you didn't read it. Plus, there's something ridiculous about self-proclaimed 'small govt' conservatives railing against 'illegal' immigration. "Ihre Papiere bitte!"
