I refuse to let a vendor come in to demo a product before sending me the literature first. I've actually had two or three of them refuse, using the excuse that no brochure can truly communicate what the product is/does. And they are shocked when I just tell them never mind, I'm not interested then. They just assume I'll tell them it's OK to come in.

I have sat through too many demos of some POS product that I have no idea what it is, what it's for, or why I would want it.

They said synergy, win-win, and proactive all those times, and not one robust or collaborative?

sometimes bueracracy isn't so bad. I know at a lot of the big financial companies, huge amounts of seemingly pointless meetings are held, and huge amounts of paperwork are generated, but the point is to diversify risk. There's no sense in holding a meeting about upgrading a workstation that one guy uses sometimes for email, but when you're talking about a 60 million dollar/yr contract, being bloated can help catch mistakes that will cost a company lots.

Actually, I hate the corporate structure. I think its amazingly ineffecient, especially meetings and such.

I wish I had the power to say no to some of these vendors. Sadly being an on site consultant I don't have that power. The company I'm on site with sets these things up. Most of the time they come about because the CIO read something from Gartner or in a magazine. You wouldn't believe the parade of software vendors that comes through the place.....sometimes they don't even know why they were brought in.
