Well, look at it this way; if it was FOX news, the headline would've read, "Space Shuttle crew faces certain death; Democrats to blame."

I hate sensationalist headline BS like that. Make the headline informative of the article, don't be a stupid little headline whore.

The shuttle, especially Discovery, is more than 20 years old. That's older than most of our cars. And we're sending people into SPACE with these things?

My work computer (PIII, 256MB Ram) Has several hundred times more power than the onboard computers aboard the shuttle. They're just OLD, and need to be retired, stat. I mean, they were designed at the end of the Apollo program...in the 1970s!

Why replace something that does what it needs to do. The computers do everything necessary, just because they're old does not mean they need to be replaced with a newer solitaire-playing computer.

"shutle crew faces 1:100 risk of dying"

i see ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with this headline.

This risk-assessment of a shuttle flight is more or less known, also, i dont see this headline as overly sensational etc.

Every astronaut also knows this risk already too.

They're trying to get more people to watch the launch, show interest in space, etc so they don't lose their grant monies from a republican govt that only wants to go to war and secure oil reserves.
