A bit sensationalist, but I don't really see a problem with it. Would you rather they sugar coat it?
I'd prefer that people understand that going into space is dangerous. People have died doing it in the past, and more will die in the future. The astronauts understand and choose to take those risks.
My biggest fear is that we become so risk averse as a society that we don't do these things at all, or more likely the risk aversion stagnates the program and makes it to expensive to continue. I fear the latter is already happening. Sugar coating the truth about the risk will only make the public reaction to an accident that much worse in my opinion.
Regarding the specific issue - it is very unlikely that a foam strike will cause loss of the vehicle on the ascent. But like Columbia, it may make it impossible to re-enter. But this mission is designed to rendevous with ISS, so they can wait it out there if there's a problem.
