So since he doesn't pay for cars, does that mean he can spend the full $1k on parts? LOL.

The Spydagon won Organizers Choice and placed in the top third of cars at the race. No serious mechanical issues, and she did 3-4 gallons/hour of fuel consumption, compared to 5-6 gallons/hour of our MK2 MR2 with 5SFE (non-turbo) engine.

what would you expect the lead time to be for a rookie to get a seat in next year's NH event?

Depends on the team and their situation. This year ModSquad had 2 cars and 5 drivers, plus me filling in the extra seat time. We would have taken a new driver only a couple weeks before the event I think. Some might want 4-8 weeks, as that's when most teams decide how many cars they want to bring.

I would want to build a car for it. And right now I have no garage.

Lulz. You would want to find a decent car, spend around $5k to get it ready to race (cage, seat, brakes, wheels, tires, 5- or 6-point harness, body/window modifications, tow points, gutting the interior, replacing any bad components, driver/pit radios, etc), $1k to register it, $400+ in drivers fees, get a tow vehicle to get the car there and back, gather up a whole set of tools, fluids, and spare parts to bring to the track, buy fueling equipment (we bring 2x55gallon drums and 6x5gallon filler tanks for two cars), on top of $1,500-3k in personal safety gear (helmet, head sock, suit, gloves, socks, shoes, and head restraint) on a race series you might not even like?

You might think that you want to build a car for it, but you should really drive with another team before building a car of your own. Dip your toe in the pool of crazy before jumping in head-first.

Well, yeah. Obviously it would be a process, not an overnight decision.

Well, I still suggest driving first. It will whet your appetite for racing, which will keep you motivated through the 400-800 man-hours you might spend prepping and debugging your first car.

Congrats!

Is that thing hard to drive with the seat so far back?

Nope if you ever played a racing game from cockpit view it's exactly like that it actually adds to the joy of driving it because of that
