Straight A's through all of highschool?
I take it he totally missed out on the whole social life thing?

Straight A's though all of highschool doesn't really take a lot of effort, and it certainly doesn't require a lot of time spent outside of class either.
In any decent schooling system getting straight A's throughout all of highschool requires a LOT of time and effort. The valedictorian in our school put in incredible amounts of time into achieveing her 99% overall GPA, as a result she had no social life outside of study groups and such.

I know nearly everyone on here fancies themself the person that got a 4.0 through all of highschool and college while smoking pot, skipping class and only showing up for tests.

There were plenty of those types at my high school. Maybe it wasn't a "decent schooling system," but I'll guarantee the pedigree of colleges that our gradutes are attending competes with your's.

Congrats. You must be very proud especially considering all he's had to go through. That's quite the accomplishment.

read post above yours and then think again.

My post was meant to convey that you don't need to sacrifice your social life to get good grades in HS...it wasn't meant to disparage Geekbabe's son. I just didn't like SampSon's assumption that A-student = loser.

I didn't take offense at Sampson's posting, it's all good, this is a celebration day🙂

And the public school system is "decent"? Hardly.

Or smoking pot, skipping class and only showing up for tests, but not a 4.0...

Right on !

I don't care where you go to school getting ALL A's will be difficult, honors (a and b's) maybe not. But all A's ? that's hard.

That wasn't implied. Just the lack of normal social life was.

There were plenty of those types at my high school. Maybe it wasn't a "decent schooling system," but I'll guarantee the pedigree of colleges that our gradutes are attending competes with your's.
You can't get straight A's without doing your homework. As for the colleges, they probably do, but what do I care I'm long out of high school and college.

And the public school system is "decent"? Hardly.
There are plenty of phenomial public schooling systems. There are school systems in my area that churn out near college level educations.
Taking the lowest common denominator of the American public schooling system and applying it to all schools is foolish.

not really. my gf is a valedictorian and she still has a social life.

sometimes i wish that i should've worked just as hard as she did... =(

Congratulations, GeekBabe. You have earned the right to be proud - of your son, and yourself for doing such a great job raising him.

What constitutes an "A" for him in highschool? Some do 85 and above while some do 90 and above. Was he in any honors classes or take any more advanced classes?

Just be wary of that PC usurping your crown. You know the old adage:

"PC: teacher...mother...secret lover..."
