has anyone seen this video? i've been hearing about it all day. is there a link where i can see this...i want to bring up old painful memories of my childhood. i know i shouldn't be joking about it but from what i hear it sounded like a typical asian whoopin' being blown out of proportion 'cause it was a caucasian. and what i just said doesn't have anything to do of race. i just meant...nm, i just want to see the video.

thanks haircut. but to tell you the truth, compared to some beatings me, my friends and relatives had, that was nothing. although still sad, it was blown out of proportion because it was caught on tape.

It wasn't blown out of proportion. The child was being abused. It's one thing to spank a child as part of discipline, but it's abuse when somone punches a child and shakes them. The mom is taking her anger out on the child. If you read the info in the other link. Young children can die from being shaken violently.
You talk about bringing up painful childhood memories, and if you received beatings worse than that, you may not want to admit it, but you were abused.

I saw it once and have been turning away from the box every time they show it. That film will be the images I think of every time someone advocates that people beat\punish their children,

Did you see she turned herself in? She's crying about the kid being "punished" more by being absent from her mother. Uh, I'm sure it isn't the first time she beat the kid. I bet her mother beat her too. Face it, this is normal for some families!
Very sad, that little girl will have some problems when she grows up. Glad they caught the mother though and there charging the other woman that was with her for not reporting it.

Oh please. If your an Asian you?ll most likely will get beat the sh!t out of you if you do something stupid. I know I got a beat down and I know it?s cause I did stupid things. I honest can say I'd be doing stupid sh!t now if all my parents did was "give me the stare" and sends me to my room. I think that?s why we see so many kids being idiots these days. The punishment is not enough for most of them.
Now getting back on topic, I think that woman did cross the line. If she?s 4 years old, a slap in the hand I'd say ok, but that was waaay too much. But still, I've seen worse (not to a 4 year old though, that?s just crazy.). Anyway, what I'm saying is that punishing kids like this is fairly common in Asian families, and I think it helps more then it hurts (to a certain degree), IMO.

I don't give a crap if beating your kids with your fists is common in Asian families...what does that have to do with anything (and they surely didn't look Asian to me)? It doesn't make it right. Hell, I hear that there are many inbreds in West Virginia...does it make it right? NOPE!
Looking at the tape, the little girl didn't do ANYTHING. She was just getting in the car. She didn't deserve ANY kind of punishment. The dumb bitch of a mother was just pissed b/c she couldn't get money for her stolen merchandise at the clothing store.
Now I'll agree, smacking your kid on the hand or the butt is could be seen as proper punishment, but when you start actually BEATING your kids with your fists, objects, and using great amounts of force that crosses the line from punishment to abuse...I don't care WHAT culture it's in.
That has to be the most horrible thing I have ever seen. I have a 13month old baby girl, and a 7 year old son so that hit close to home for me.
Believe me if I would have been in that parking lot and seen her doing that, I would have showed her just what its like when someone bigger than you pounds the living snot out of you.

I was looking out my window one day when I noticed a man next door who appeared to be shaking a baby violently. I was very tempted to call the police, however I felt I had to be sure. I got out my binoculars and found that it was a doll, and he was playing with a child in a high chair making the child laugh.

Or sometimes they end up worse than being dead. I know because the wife of our member jonnyGURU is a teacher for severely mentally handicapped children. Some of them are like that because they were violently shaken. I have seen pictures of these kids and some of them are not much more than lumps of flesh not able to do much of anything. It is very sad to see.

I know what you said, and my post wasn't directed at your thoughts on the woman. The main point of my post was directed at the fact that you seemed to think that BEATING your kids senseless for something they did wrong was an appropriate correctional measure. I TOTALLY disagree with that.

i kinda have to agree with you. i have some friends that have gotten into fist fights with there dads and had broken bones and such.
when i was ike 6 or so me and my sister were bein really loud when my dad was on teh phone and he hit me with it on the shoulder crushed me to teh floor and then continued talking
I didnt say beating your kid was ok, I stated a fact that this is normal with in asian families. Then I said kids needs to be punished but not as bad as what that woman did. For a 4 year old thats too much. I do believe in punishing kids. I doubt I will ever use it, but there are some kids out there that really needs it (again, not senceless beating, but spanking a kid isnt going to scar him for life). I was originally posting to that guy who made it sound like any kind of physical contact meant as punishment is wrong.

i was spanked as a child, and i turned out okay, nothing quite like that admittedly.....pretty much always open hand or a belt......i feel sorry for that child, i saw that video on the news the other day.....revolting.
funny story:
One day when I was about 10-12, me and my little brother were rough housing around. After about the umpteenth time telling us to knock it off, my mom got up and took the yard stick to us. (Are any of you old enough to remember when all mom's had yardsticks to help with sewing? It's just like a wooden ruler but it's 36 inches long...duh) Anyways, it broke when she smacked my brother's ass. We both busted up laughing...my mom didn't say a word. She grabbed her car keys and drove off. A few minutes later she pulled up, got out, and walked in the house...carrying a METAL yardstick! Yikes!!! She laid it on the table and said "Now. Settle down!"
Today, me and my brother are in our late 30's. And we still bring this up to my mom and all crack up.
