Pro-G review .

8/10 rating.

In conclusion then, with solid marks in terms of combat, characterisation and plot, coupled with a first rate graphics engine (a version of Bioware's Aurora engine that's completely unrecognisable from its original incarnation in Neverwinter Nights), a fine orchestral score, high production values and a willingness to tackle adult themes, The Witcher's strengths outweigh its few flaws (long loading times and the aforementioned translation issues) by a considerable margin.

Yes, but only up to M. AO (adults only) games tend not to sell in the US, mostly because of uptight religious groups who have way too much time on their hands and cause trouble for video game companies. Boycotts and bad press and assaults from Hillary Clinton can seriously hurt sales.
Never mind you can go to CDuniverse.com and they have about 25,000 porno movies. I guess thats OK. But naughty video games are a big NO-NO.

Having said all that, I think I'll buy the Euro version to just to piss Hillary off.

I actually like the idea that there will be very little loot-hunting, and more emphasis placed on story progression.
That scares me. I hated Blade of Darkness.

This game is really really good. it's been awhile since i played a rpg this good. it's like an action rpg using the neverwinter nights engine with warhammer/conan type of action.

shoot, even the intro movie, i don't remember the last time i've seen a good intro like it.

As it turns out, the combat isn't much like BoD.

Gamingheaven Review .

87/100 rating.

What Gothic 3 failed to deliver The Witcher not only brings on a scratched metal plate, but brings it with a rusty axe stuck right in the middle of it. Metaphors aside, this is one of the best RPGs of this year and is second to none when it comes to delivering a more realistic, and particularly grim, story.

The game does have shortcomings such as a clunky inventory and some minor technical difficulties. But all of this hardly matters when weighed against all of the positives such as rewarding and complex combat, great length (40 hours or more), a more adult approach to adventuring (including dealing with the ladies!) and one badass main character, Gareth. If you plan on purchasing one RPG this year, this should be it!

GameTap review.

8/10 rating.

Despite all that, though, the neat tweaks to the basic mouse-click combat gameplay, plus the interesting world and the fascinating moral decisions to be made, make The Witcher an extremely good export for PC RPG fans.

That 'I' represents an Import, thus UK version of the game, correct?

Looks like it ,
This is the full uncensored UK version of the Game.
.

Side note:Their forums are suggesting a new patch is going to be released within 2 weeks, lets hope they are right.

Just wanted to make sure it wasn't a scam or something along those lines. I'd hate to have to try hack the censored content back into the game if I mistakenly purchased the US version.

How much difference is there - really - between the GB and the US copy? What are we missing on this side of the pond?

a little more skin and blood - which can probably be patched in later - or more significant differences?

i *doubt* i will be able to find an import version on sale
-anyone want to sell me their copy after they are finished? :p
-i am serious about not paying Atari anything :|

I can confirm it's legit. The case should have 'ATARI UNITED KINGDOM LTD - Landmark House' on the back.

Good news about the patch. For those of you who haven't started playing yet, wait until 1.2 is out.

Having played through, I can guess where the game was censored. There are several nude models, the Dryad being one, which would have to be covered up a bit around key areas, and most of the trading cards would need to be altered. There are decapitations and spurting blood, but whether or not they took those out I can't say.

This is indeed very good news. It is what I have been waiting for before buying. Thanks Mem for the info!

Good news on that 1.2 patch, hopefully it does fix the stability issues.

My copy shipped today, and with a little luck, it should arrive before Thanksgiving weekend. :)

Well my copy finally arrived from the UK, and I was surprised to see its the limited edition.

Now if only I didn't have exams tomorrow ...
Here's hoping I can keep focused on the studying!

I agree. Sometimes the loading was so long that it detracted me from the experience.

Well I couldn't resist the urges so I played a bit, definitely a cool game. I haven't had any problems, aside from my DVD drive being broken.

I played it for the first time last night, though only for an hour or so. Seems to be stable, as I didn't experience a single crash the entire time, with max settings at 1920x1200 as well. Performance was good, though there were times when it hitched and jerked a little.

The combat system takes a little getting used to it, its not the usual 'click until its dead' style nor the 'enter combat mode and autoattack on dice rolls until dead' style. I'll be playing more this weekend.

Great news that they are working on improving the loading times. I have actually completely put the game down for the last couple weeks, but I'll definitely go back and finish it sooner than later. Hopefully I can finish SMG before this patch comes out!

I would still wait for the 1.2 patch, guys. 1.1 savegames will likely not be compatible with 1.2. The load times and autosaving may be tolerable at the beginning, but they *will* get on your nerves in acts 2 and 3.

Hm, I guess I'll wait.

I'm only in the second area and already the loading is incredibly long.
I've got some school stuff to work on anyways.
