I thought the whole point in that game rating system was to keep consumers aware of the game content so that it wouldn't have to be censored? Looks like I'll be buying the imported version.

The US version is censored, with several altered character models, sex-related quests removed altogether, and dismemberment removed.

GameBanshee Preview .

To sweeten it up a bit, I've also uploaded fourty-eight high resolution 2560x1600 screenshots and eighteen of the game's fantastic loading screens. If you had any doubts about the game's art style, these should put them to rest.

I hope there is a demo - want to give this a try before buying :) Though if the reviews are positive i'll go for it. I really dlsliked oblivion (the general leveling system sucks and the game itself was really dry) but in general i like rpg'ish games (nwn/wizardry 8/bg 2). Gothic was a bit hard for me.

It looks like it's a mix Blade of Darkness and Gothic, the combat resembling BoD (using timed combos and twitch skills) and the story/questing/gameworld resembling that of Gothic.

I actually like the idea that there will be very little loot-hunting, and more emphasis placed on story progression.

Does this game actually offer the option to scroll between first-person & third-person POV?

After checking around a bit more, I'm now not entirely sure whether or not the finishing moves (which lead to dismemberment) have been removed from the censored version. The seduction quests and nudity have definitely been removed.

This game runs off the Aurora engine, also used in NWN, so it's not free-roaming like Gothic. There are load zones between maps, but the maps are much bigger than those found in NWN1/2.

And to answer the question above: No, it's 3rd-person only, with 2 camera positions - over the shoulder, or a more distant RTS-like view.

They devs claim that the game has anywhere from 50-80 hours of play in it.

Too bad ... I may still give it a try anyway though if the reviews are good enough.

Geez... 1.1 patch already released?

Something tells me Marketing must have had a hand in getting the game out early... :(

Depends on the game, look at NWN2 that had more patches then my bicycle tyre ;).

Some stores in the UK have it out today, official release date is tomorrow however.

I'll take a big patch over no patch anyday even before the game is out,to be honest I would be surprised to see any RPG game nowadays without a major patch or two.

I'm not saying updates are bad. If the game needs patches, the publishers better let the devs do their job and support the game.

What I am saying is that when a patch is released for a game before its even on the shelves is a sign that the game is going to be extremely buggy.

NWN2 did have a patch available the day of release as well.

isn't the *same* Atari that released that bugfest known as NWN2 *also* the same Atari that is releasing The Witcher?

if so, i'd say a "mess" is a given :p
-a disaster is likely
:D

i will NOT touch another goddamn atari game until it is *CLEARED* by you guys as reasonably bug free and polished. :|
... but then i anticipate saving a lot of money [time, frustration, anger] when i get them for $20 .... by THEN they will be bug-free.

Agreed, Atari's "ship now fix later" strategy is getting ridiculous.

Yep... of course, with this patch, witcher could be relatively bug free... but like you folks, I doubt it.

So I'm waiting to buy this until the coast is clear. Actually, I probably better not buy anymore games until I defend my thesis.
