How long does it take to finish the game if you only do the main quests?


And are the side quests worth it? That is, do they reveal more of the story and plot or are they just pointless filler?
 
Some are pointless filler, some are not. Many will reveal extra information about the game or the game world, but nothing critical. If you play on higher difficulty, though, you may find yourself too far below the level to finish the boss battles at certain transitions. I know this happened to me in Act I as I could not even touch The Beast when I triggered him.

If you skipped everything, though, I couldn't imagine more than 20 hours. Most of that would be running around too.
