The Witcher - Should I still get the imported version?

Be sure to get the no-DVD crack though, the copy protection is shit.

It's really buggy alright, even with the latest patch. The latest bug I experienced last night. I was in Kalksteins house and used the teleport there to Triss' house and the fucking game restarted the intro cut scene for chapter 3 again (I guess using the teleport makes the game think it's the first time you go into her house) and it wiped out all my map and then crashed the game.

Don't worry too much about the intro,story develops as you play each chapter and you'll soon know what's going on.

I played for around for a couple hours lastnight.

A lot of the dialog just doesn't make sense and is not appropriate for the topic. I actually laughed out loud a couple of times at how nonsensical some of it is. Plus your first female "encounter" is cheese-o-riffic.

Also, some of the cut scenes are pointless and interrupt the gameplay.

Overall my feelings are mixed, I was either going to get this or Crysis yesterday and I feel like I may have made a mistake. The combat is fun though and is the best part of the game for, hopefully the story starts to pickup because I couldn't motivate myself to keep playing much past the initial tutorial lastnight.

I prefered The Witcher to Oblivion,story in Oblivion was a 5 min joke,even Morrowind was way better then Oblivion which was too console like IMHO.

Shivering Isles expansion was best part of Oblivion.

I think from chapter 2 it kicks off,that's where I got hooked.

i installed the game last week and dl the patch...it froze up once...no problems otherwise...it is also one of the longest games u can play if u do all the quests...

i loved the characters mostly, the writing was very good and funny and not too cheesy...the best part though is the end where it was good twists and the last scene...both expose questions from all angles and leave the game opened for a sequel...that is a true way an engrossed rpg should be...it has many people chiming in with opinions on what they thought happened which is partly attributed to the numerous options u have in game...

the combat system may have been a lil faulty and some bugs in the game but the story and feel of the game were top notch

actually "The Dark Brotherhood" was the best written side-quest for me - with some interesting moral dilemmas posed ... SI was better overall than Oblivion - the 'world' reacted better to your changing status and the voices finally got some variety

... btw i just got the Witcher patch installed ...

... quick question ... Over-the-shoulder camera? Better than top down?

I never used any other camera angle so I can't really compare but the over the shoulder camera seemed natural and fluid to me. Pretty much like any other 3rd person perspective game.

Well just got into Chapter II before dozing off lastnight. I missed a quest or two I'm sure but nothing major.

It is getting better and I can now say that I'm happy I got it.

The vast minority have copyright protection issues, the cd is fine I wouldnt worry about it.

Oblivion and The Witcher are two very different games. Oblivion is unmatched for character development in the sense you could become anything from a skilled mage, assasin, bard, warrior, etc, with armor and weapons to match.

Character develpment in The Witcher is quite different. It's the storyline and the choice/consequence theme in The Witcher that really stands out.

I just finished it last night. Wow, what an awesome game!! It's refreshing to finish with a character who's a poker legend, infamous fistfighter, playboy, badass, monster slayer, and savior all rolled in one.

I hope the quest continues. There's more "plowing" I'd like to do. Gimme a hot Dwarf chic..
