The Witcher - is it worth playing without the Enhanced Edition?

My brother just mailed his Witcher disk to me and I'm pretty keen to get into it. I know the enhanced edition is pretty badass but it's large and I'm on tight bandwidth constraints. Is it worth playing without the EE pack or should I bite the bullet and spend the bandwidth?

what do you mean you are tight on the bandwidth? do you pay per GB?
Get the EE, as non-EE is painfully slow in loading.

I picked it up when it first came out and as such I played without the EE, I still loved it. I have yet to play through with the EE for my second time through, so I really can't compare. Obviously you'll be missing something, but I doubt it's night and day.

Its worth playing with out the EE, the EE just irons out some rough points and helps with the loading problem a little. Loading times are still a pain though.

I would spend the bandwidth money for the EE. For me the original version was pretty painful.

Edit to say i still enjoyed the game either way, the EE just makes a good game that much better.

The EE edition is really worth it. Load times (and there are plenty) are cut more than half, you get improved graphics (think HL2 vs. HL2 Ep.2...not THAT much improved, but better none the less) and a lot better performance...game FPS is dramatically improved...overall the game just feels more "complete" instead of something thats just playable that should have been left on the cutting floor a couple more months. Plus added stories and quests...

Heres a link to all the changes:

Definitely play the EE. It addresses many of the things that damaged my enjoyment of the game in my first non-EE runthrough.

Does anyone know if installing the EE patch will kill current save games?

It's been so long since I last really played through this game that I probably should start over anyway, but just thought I'd ask.

I think you're right. I just played through EE a few months ago. And I believe it killed my saves before I got it completely patched up.

And holy crap, the load times were horrible. I can't imagine they were worse!

Great game, tho. Totally worth putting up with. :)

Thanks, I just got screwed in Company of Heroes with their crappy patch that f'd my savegames, so I figured I'd ask before destroying hours played in another game.

You know I have been wanting to try the EE yet I cant warrant paying for it.

I played the original edition pretty far through but its flaws got the best of me and I could not finish it. Most notable was playing on the hard difficult requires actually using alchemy. Most fights were still rediculously easy but the hard fights can get near impossible with out ample potions.

Towards the end the game starts to slingshot you along with nowhere to go to get supplies for health potions and I screwed myself. the Weaker parts of the game annoyed me enough that I didnt want to go back to a prior save.

Loading times, clumsy crafting system but MOST of all - I got so sick of running back and forth to the same damn swamp zone a gazillion times.........
