There's some additional info available. Apparently, this trailer was done half a year ago. It's still gonna be the Aurora engine (even more modified I guess 😛) and there are some story bits available if anyone's interested. I'll post the translation here if you guys want, will be kinda spoiler-ish though 🙂

I hope they use the same voice actor for Geralt in the sequel. One of the reasons I liked The Witcher (and also Thief) was because your character was a genuine badass and had no misconceptions about his badassedness.

Yep. The voiceover they had in the trailer for Geralt made him sound like some developer just reading the subtitles. I really liked his voice in the first one. It was just...badass.

The original game was just awesome, though. Practically no hand-holding, easy to get yourself into trouble, etc. When they say "alchemy is necessary" on hard mode, they aren't kidding.

It is an alpha version . . .

I just hope combat is more engaging this time around. I really liked Witcher but found the click based combat pretty weak. Yahtzee said it: "to kill someone you click on them. feeling adventurous? click on them again."

I think they also need to streamline potions, and do better with descriptions of their effects. I found it inelegantly implemented to put it mildly.

Still, very much looking forward to this. It's a good time for PC rpgs lately. Fallout3, Witcher, ME2, Dragon Age, Last Remnant, Alpha protocol.

This sums up my thoughts exactly. I hope they improve these things as they have improved upon the graphics.

I loved alchemy in the game because it was up to you to prepare. One of the biggest problems in most RPGs is one-use items. You never know when the battle is big enough to use them. Most RPGs I usually find myself at the end of the game with 1,000 potions.

I hope they modify alchemy, though, that once you make a potion, the default for that potion switches to the components you chose. It was annoying that it always reverted to the default ingredients which were usually the poorest choices.

Very impressive for an Alpha build. I will definitely keep an eye for that game. I haven't played the first one, but I might end up buying it if I know I'll buy the second one.

Let's hope the engine is a bit more optimized - the dragon burning the city had some massive drop in frame rates.

Pure Awesomesauce!

Not only that, but we won't see Witcher 2 until probably 2011-12 at the earliest, so we'll all have far better hardware than we do now.

Maybe not. Now that the studio has gone through it once, they may have a more realistic idea of what it takes to produce this type of game (which they readily admitted they did not the first time around) and are more efficient this time. But I have no idea when this game will be released, nor will I hazard a guess.

Leaked footage from a demo at a Russian presentation - video quality is super bad, but even then it's... HOLY SHIT! This game will be beyond awesome. Supposedly it's got a bit of DMC and GoW mixed into the fighting now...

Here's the link to Youtube.

I never got further than about 10% into the first one - not for disliking it, but because other things came up. I really should go back and put more time into that game, because it is a great game.

You should. Its definitely one of those game "you take a sick day from work for". lol

ah, love the first one. we really need another game with epic male hero with harem. it just adds to his character. not to mention taking advantage of his infertility.

i'd definitely get the euro version over the cut US version.

Finally finished the first game. I'm definitely getting the second; the first one was a blast.

land walking octopi, how sick is that?! those graphics are stunning

I would personally like them to do something more than the "click on your enemy" combat system, but it didn't really hurt the first game. The meat-and-potatoes of the game was in character development and the story. It would probably piss off some of the hardcore RPG nerds if they made combat too skill-based as well. I'd appreciate a system where you have a button to do regular attacks, a button to parry, and a button for special attacks so it was a bit more player-controlled. It might be a bit hard to implement parrying for the group style, though.

That leaked trailer looks awesome! I can't wait!

Anyone know for sure what the release date will be?

The Witcher is one of my favorite games ever!!
