Excellent topic. My thoughts:
First of all, the economy is wobbly now. Four years from now it will likely be completely different. But the damage done to the USA by the current President will still remain to some extent, larger or smaller. Will the tinderkeg known as Pakistan (with the Islamic nucleaur bomb and bin Laden in country) blow up? If McCain is elected, will he succeed in carrying out his "bomb, bomb, bomb Iran" dream? And our economy will still have some major damage, from the present sub-prime mortgage, etc. fiasco, the GWB tax cuts/unbalanced budget, etc. Our military right now is dangerously hollowed out and needs a total rebuild-once we get out of Bush's war.
My thoughts:
McCain: No way he will last two terms. He is far less vital than Reagan was at this stage, and Reagan failed miserably in his second term. Whether it was the Alzheimer's already setting in or not I don't know, but he definately was not playing his A game during the second term.
Hillary Clinton: if elected, also definately a one-termer. I predict she will be a micro-manager like Jimmy Carter was (probably will personally answer the 3AM calls). Coupled with her divisive nature, if she is President total gridlock will result. I predict a weak, ineffective one term Presidency from her.
Obama: I think he could rather easily serve two terms. I predict some actual progress would be made in Washington. Not everything he wants by a long shot, but some real accomplishments. I also predict the vitrolic partisanship will go out of favor in his term. But if he is elected, I hope our Secret Service is up to the challenge, because the nutjobs will trying to JFK him.
