The Wildnet's Back! (but it needs help)

That's right! I've got 16 computers back and running SETI for the TeAm. 😀 I just found somebody to give me permission an hour ago!

I've got some issues, though, that I need to resolve pretty soon. The main one is that the ftp server I've been using to store intermediate WUs is going to require SSH2 encryption after October 1. I don't think I can fit that on my floppy install. 🙁 So would somebody here be willing to host about 7mb of WUs via FTP? They can also be compressed if necessary. A small web page with CGI wouldn't hurt either, though I can get around the lack of it.

Thanks!

Good news! 😀

Here's a wish I could help bump, and I'm sure that someone will meander by and be able to help! 😀

I'm already using the TA Cube Q. Unfortunately, that's not enough. You see, these machines have no hard drives (except when someone puts one in, and then they're not running SETI anymore.) When I started doing this, if someone interrupted a WU before it was completed, the entire WU was lost. I need FTP to back up the partially completed WUs to a real hard drive, so I can start them up again after the other user is done.

The deadline for this, BTW, is October 1. I just remembered I'm supposed to get wireless ethernet sometime in October. Anyone know if that kind of ethernet would have a stable enough IP to run a server? (But there could be a month of down time unless I find another server.)

I'd be willing to host 7+ megs on my FTP server. I only have a 128K upload so the transfer could be slow but I have lots of storage space I'm willing to donate to get 16 computers crunchin' for the TeAm.

Thank you, EvilWobbles! 🙂 That might be a good interim solution. If I'm calculating right, though, 16 WUs, each about 280000 bytes compressed, being uploaded once an hour each, uses about 1/8 of your bandwidth. If you can handle that, I'll take it (but not until my current server is blocked.)

Well, most of the time my bandwidth is sitting there unused. I figure we can give it a try and see what happens.

If we need to, maybe we can find someone with a higher upload capacity that would be willing to take on your storage and bandwidth requirements.

We'll never know if we don't try 🙂

And 16 computers crunchin' for the TeAm is too important not to find a solution for your unique requirements!
