Ouch! That sucks for Nintendo

Won't matter, the Phillips patent was filed after the Wii was already released from what I've read. Nintendo will win this one if that's the case. Also, they waited until 2011 to even contact Nintendo at all the Wii had been out for what, 5 years?

In the end Nintendo will pay something just to make them go away.

Philips just wants to make Wand of Gamelon HD and this is the only way they can get the rights.

Ars posted an article on how they'd save Nintendo.
http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2014/05/how-wed-save-nintendo/

Nothing really profound here though still worth a read.

One thing they did bring up about the Wii U is that it's a jumbled mess of a console, and the controller is one of the biggest problems. Bulky, low battery life, and doesn't really work well for local multiplayer. That Nintendo tried to cram too much into it using a spray and pray design philosophy. That the systems aren't as innovative as people think they are, citing that most GameCube, Wii, and Wii U games would have played just as well on Xbox or PlayStation. Or rather Nintendo's hardware wasn't critical to the experience, save a handful of Wii games that did properly utilize the motion controller.

A lot of people are now agreeing that Nintendo should stop using gimmicks and stick to a more traditional control scheme.

and make another $400 heavily subsidized box?

no, that's not interesting. fwiw the gamecube is probably my fav console of a'' time.

i was a litt'e disappointed they didnt try to improve on the wiimote. the psmove is like a better wiimote...

Suing Nintendo is practically a right of passage (and I don't mean that in a good way). The Wii has earned Nintendo so many frivolous lawsuits that it's hard to imagine this one will impact Nintendo at all.

Got Wii Fit U today. Wife and I are loving it so far. I am really happy with the Wii U, it's a much better system than I thought it was. I had low expectations though from the start but keep getting surprised. Also got AC Black Flag today and I am looking forward to playing it as I have heard it was great.

Glad you are enjoying it. Be sure to pick up Super Mario 3D World. Definitely the best game on the system, thus far.
