alot of people from foreign countries are named western names because it's fashionable to do so.

no, you'll talk to them on the phone and their name is chad or david, but when they send you an email its kuthrapali or rajesh.

no, sometimes a person's given name is a western name, even if that person doesnt speak a word of english.

it's fashionable. in the same way as engrish sells.

it doesnt make sense to us, but it doesnt have to.

i've actually had what I typed happen to me.

I realize it's not the same, but I have a fairly long Italian last name, and even though it's said just like it's spelled, people fuck it up all the time. I remember when I was younger, my folks would make restaurant reservations under a shorter (fake) last name just because they got sick of people stumbling over it.

I don't do that yet, but I'm getting closer. I do think it is basic courtesy and a sign of respect to learn someone's correct name, though. I might ask a couple of times when I first meet someone, but I make it a point to learn someone's name, including correct pronunciation.

Oddly, Indian people have the least trouble with my name, other Italians not withstanding.

Kind of OT, but I have a short last name (Frakes) and it seems like quite a few people mess it up. Most seem to think it's pronounced Franks, for some reason. I mean I could understand Frake-es or something like that, but I have no idea where people get the n from. If it was pronounced Franks, that's how it would be spelled.

I think a good chunk of the population just has difficulty with simple concepts like reading.

Oh, ok, let me make sure I am understanding. You are having this problem? Let's go in and change a bunch of random shit just vecause I don't really know vhat I am doink and vill be soon passink you to second tier support. "

It fucking pisses me off to have to deal with some of these morons who can't work without a script. Throw them one little curveball ahd they get so excited they are standing veeside themselves...

You can't blame the person. A majority if them it is just a job. They know nothing about what they are doing, they are reading a script because that is what they are paid to do. It's the companies fault for not hiring trained people, not the untrained people.

 so did I.

you said no to what i said.

suffice to say there's lots of reasons why they might have a western name. even if it's not their legit name.

This is why I always laugh at the argument against open source "but the expensive commercial product has support!" Support, my ass. Try to understand those people. I rather get a free product then I can just use google for support.

I had to call Adobe support once because they sent the wrong serial with the wrong product so it did not work. Woah.... wont even go there. Then there's Galileo (travel agency company). WOAH, totally brutal. Often you can just select french and get someone in Canada, but nope, same call center, SAME PERSON! LOL. Try understand some guy with a turban trying to talk French. woah.
