A friend of mine was asking me about some audio equipment someone had tried selling him. It was some weird name that I had never heard of, so I asked where he had heard about it. He started telling me about a couple guys that were selling the stuff out of a van. I asked if it was a white van and he said yes. So I started cracking up and guessed that the stuff had been put on there by accident. I told my buddy about the scam and was like, "this happens alot?" If he only knew....

so anyways, if you live in michigan, beware the white van!!!

The white van doesn't happen to have a Pioneer DEH-3300, Power Acoustic Sapphire 860 (I think the model was), 2 Polk GNX 12" subs in a custom box, and a Whistler Darlington series radar detector... does it?

doh...I've still yet to see one of these white vans, and I'm in MI too! Maybe I'll get a good deal on an upgrade from my H/K and Studio 40s, all in one fell swoop. 🙂

Y'know, I wonder why these people just don't get another damn colored van. Blue or beige or something.

I haven't seen the white van but I did see a beige explorer approach me. I was at an Exxon filling up my car and this car honks and starts driving towards me. These two guys were in the explorer and said "hey man, you want to buy some speakers?". Then they went off about how they were from another small city picking up speakers in Austin and the order was messed up and they were given a pair for free. They tried to show me a receipt and said if I didn't like them I could return it. I just said no thanks and after a while they finally left.

Wow, this has been going on forever, me and a buddy of mine got waived down my two guys in a white van selling speakers (cheap pos) in 1987 .... Im not kidding this is a old old old scam that seems to work well on the un-informed

Flashing back the guys who where offering them at the time backed down pretty quick when my audiophile friend started disecting the info they were spewing.

It makes me laugh every time I hear about this

the white van salesman must be doing pretty good. He's expanding!

now how do I get in on this racket?

they have to be making money if they are in so many states...I really wish these guys would approach me with this stuf...I would grill them for hours about the specs on the stuff

It's not just one guy... It's been going on for ages.

What was funny is that a few years back during my UCSC years, my friend and I were approached by the white van scammers. They asked us if we wanted to buy speakers, we asked them if they knew how tight a college budget was...

It's a franchise operation and you have to know somebody in the company.

i got hit up by one, knew the story, then not a week later my friend tells me he got a great deal on speakers.....from a white van...*DOH*

so what brands are they selling,
if the receiver has coax in and 5.1 dolby, i'd get talk em down 🙂

its some POS brand that no one has ever heard of...I wish I could remember the name of the stuff they were selling...either way you would be better off giving all your money to the first homeless midget you see rather than buying the crap these guys are selling

Just got propositioned to buy PA speakers from a BLACK VAN. Two guys and a hot chick in the back. I should have got the hot chicks to dance for me, then left. But I didn't. They were blocking my car with their van so I had to play nice.

I think this "white van" thing is hilarious. You guys think this is something new to your generation? It's been going on since the '60's that I remember. Back then they were selling stuff out of the trunks of cars.

Those were drugs, not speakers.

Today, 3 guys tried selling me high quality frozen steaks. They also had chicken and seafood. I was impressed, the truck was like an old mini uhaul truck...no decals or anything.
No refridgeration in the back, instead they had it loaded about a dozen discs of dry ice. (for about 5 boxes of meat)
