The Wheel of Time - Book 11 - Out Today!!!

I tried reading The Eye of the World a while back, but got side tracked with George Martin's A Game of Thrones.

It's a good series, once you read the first and second book you will be hooked and won't stop. They need to make this into a movie 🙂 It would own LOTR.

I'll just go to the bookstore, read the first chapter, then last chapter, and know I didn't miss anything.

If I feel like it, maybe the first sentance of each chapter to really engross myself in the epic struggle with the innovative ideas that men and women don't trust each other and if they just got along everything would go fine. OMG, men! They're such boars! Such uncouth things, how can I ever trust them with the simple information of where I'll be or what I know will save the world.

Women! Such nosy creatures, they always prattle on instead of taking action! Nothing ever gets done, the world will destroy itself.

Arggh, look what you did. I'll be cursing Jordan all night in my sleep.

I was until about the 4th book when he just threw everything into a stupidly complicated mess. That being said, I've read all of them up to this one, but reading them is getting to be a chore.

A Song of Fire and Ice is a much better series, although thats become probably an even worse mess than what Jordan's done, but at least it keeps me reading.

Let's hope it's not the suckage and train wreck that was Crossroads of Twilight. Each book has been getting more boring since Path of Daggers. I think I'll wait a week and see the opinions on Knife of Dreams. I still have 700 pages left in The Count of Monte Cristo anyway.

It might become a worse mess. But, the fourth book is finally arriving in a few weeks time. From samples I've read though, he is extending the series like Jordan, but in no way is he going to milk readers for everything like Jordan.

I lasted until part way through book six when I couldn't really get into the books anymore 🙁 It's too bad, there are a lot of great parts in this series but they become fewer and farther between with each book...

About the Song of Ice and Fire books, I agree that Martin has gotten himself into a bit of trouble, but I think he'll be able to pull himself out of it somehow... He needs to set a limit to how many books he'll write, especially since each book comes out years after the last :\

I think he learned from the feedback he got from his last book, this one will tie things nicely. Hopefully Tar Valon will fall in this book, and Mat will get the Horn back and own sh!t up. 🙂

Finally? Yay!

Yeah, I don't know how he does it, but Martin somehow manages to make each chapter exciting. With all the different characters and now timeline switches, its barely comprehendable, but its much more entertaining than Wheel of Time. I don't even try to figure out all the details, as most of them are inconsequential anyways, and its easy enough to figure out whats going on as a whole, so its not a big deal.

Yeah, thats the only thing that keeps me reading Wheel of Time. Every great once in a while, Jordan will have a flash of brightness. Of course, when things seem to be getting really good he changes to another boring storyline that probably should've never been made.

I'll probably read through each book in the series until they're done, but I'm not going to reread them. I tried rereading through Eye of the World this summer, even made it to like page 400, but its just wasn't very enjoyable.

Sword of Truth > WoT

Wheel of Time was good for the first 7, but after that it went downhill. He needs to finish it. If the series lasts until book 15+ I am going to to his residence and stab him in the face. Repeatedly.

No he clearly stated that the series will end with 1 more book after Knife of Dreams which will be book 12. There's still a lot that needs to happen, so these last two books I expect will be action packed.

Yeah, all that matters is if it is finally the last damn book. I'm a slow learner, I stopped after book 8 when I realized that the books keep getting slower, more characters to remember, too many plot points, and he kept recycling the same damn dialogue. And they were just plain boring. I was annoyed when in one of the books, after spending a week reading a 1200 page book, that only 3 days had passed in the books timeline.

And how many times do I have to read about Rand or the other fags acting like a MOONCALF?

How many times do I have to read about Rand fvcking one of his three chicks, then the other two getting jealous but then they all make up and want to be sisters and lick each others creampies??? Hmm polygamy and incest, I think I know what the author is into.

How many times do I have to read about the super Irish desert ninjas kicking everyone's ass? Even though our history shows that cavalry dominates infantry unless they are using massed spears or pole-arms??? No short spears don't count.

It's been so long since I read a book of his I can't even remember what exactly I don't like about it anymore.

I actually used to think there were unimportant details too, and just went along with the main storyline. But, if you take the time to figure them out, or just talk to people, read things about it, you notice that tiny details work out for everyone. Huge foreshadowing that makes you smack your forehead going, thats so obvious, but I never saw it coming.

link to fourth book if anyone is interested

I personally never preorder books though. I just show up the night before release day cuz sometimes they'll sell early, or are setting up and I just try to grab it. That, or on release day, I'll pick it up. They never run out of the big releases and I get it right then and there.

I preordered this one, it should be arriving today. I'm looking forward to it, since I have reread 1-6 since the release of CoT. Hopefully this one will get back to the action and creativity of the first half of the series.

It would own LOTR.

A lot of fantasy sagas would. 😛

The Sword of Truth, A Song of Ice and Fire to name a few.

The problem is that because there is that for the most part only fantasy nerds would have any real interest in them. None other series comes anywhere close to LOTR in terms of sheer volume of fans or at least people that have heard of it. I think that it would take a foolish studio to put forward the kind of money that would be necessary to do any of these potential films well.

That having been said, I'd probably go see a WoT movie, although I'd expect to see the DVD in the bargain bin three months later.
