The Weirdest thing!

My computer seems to "beep" when I use the scroll wheel in Internet Explorer. I can't pinpoint exactly where it's coming from, but it's in the Motherboard area near the CPU. I just installed a new MoBo/Vid Card, but I can't tell where it's coming from. I've had this happen once, where the sound came from the speakers a long time ago, with a crappy optical mouse, but this time, it's not coming from the speakers, and it's ONLY when I use internet explorer. Any other software where the scroll wheel is utilized is fine, and doesn't make these faint beeping noises. It's one small beep per click of the wheel. Does anyone know what's going on? Thanks.

if its coming from within the case then its the internal speaker, if you know what your doing and don't want to troubleshoot the software even though it seems like a hardware issue, you can just unplug the speaker(i don't think many would recommend this though because then you'd lack bios error codes should you ever need them). find the speaker, usually the front bottom of the case, and trace the cable back to the motherboard, and pull it out(gently).

you could also try using an alternative web browser. have you tried a different mouse yet?

I really don't think it's coming from the speaker...call me crazy, but I really do think it's coming from the video card. Like when it's going from dormant, to active (i.e. scrolling), or when it goes from 2D apps to 3D apps.

*edit*...Ok, I did some searching around and found THIS.

...i'll have to try the solution when I get home.

I'm sorry, but this was just too funny..

A quote from your link above:
This is the Nvidia "optimized" subconscious beep and you're not supposed to hear it. It's supposed to make you drawn to their products and keep all fanboiz faithful to their master.

Ask me and I'd say return the card, ask a fanboi or write to Nvidia and they'd say check your ears 😀

Weird, I actually have this issue as well. I only notice it when it's really quiet though. I have also noticed that the sound does come through the speakers as well if the volume is cranked up a bit, but I also hear it when the speakers are turned off. I just always assumed it was the mouse and didn't worry about it, since it doesn't bother me.

Hey! i have that noise too, but i can only hear it when i plug in headphones and listen on them. It squeaks every time i move the mouse wheel and i have a 9800 PRO and use aol but this cant be heard at all without headphones. weird init. :s

Ok...I disabled smooth scrolling in IE, and found a way to disable it in Outlook Express using registry. Now, no more beeping sounds when I scroll...only when it goes from 2D to 3D apps. It's DEFINITELY coming from the video card. 😀
...I'm getting somewhat used to it...and the performance gains from the 5900Ultra makes up for it. This sucker is definitely one LOUD vic card though.

To be honest, I also notice a morse code type beeping noise when I scroll using internet explorer. It can tell you it comes from the center channel on my Logitech 5.1 640z speakers. I use the onboard sound from my Abit NF7-s motherboard. I occurs any time ANY type of input is made from ether the keyboard or the mouse. Defiantly more pronounced using my Logitech mx500 scroll wheel. It is not loud but defiantly audible when speakers are 90 - 100% of max volume. To me that implies some type of EMI issue from one of the components.

Anyone have any ideas?
