I'm thirty. My dad is obsessed with weather. On certain days when my wife and I are both working (she's part time, I'm full time), he's nice enough to watch my daughter so my wife and I don't have to put her in day care. The first thing in the morning that is normally said if I wake up before him is "What's the weather like?" and if he's up first (normal), I get a rundown of the forecast for the day, and what its like outside right now (he still smokes, and goes outside right away after waking up).

I hate talking about the weather. Stupid and pointless, nothing you say is going to change anything about it so why bother.

With my dad, its either Weather or Politics, so I guess I'd prefer the weather.

Oh I can understand your situation, as boring as weather can be, politics... Lets just say I avoid it like the plague

On a side note, conversations with my dad are more about music and.. actually we dont talk a whole lot  Both are too straight to the point to have chit chat LOL maybe a philosophical thought once in a while :p

the weather is a nice neutral topic of discussion. no one can get offended by weather talk. i have to talk about the weather every day because everyone can relate and participate.

my Dad farmed for decades, he's a weather Dad for sure.

Same, it's important when your livelihood depends on it.

Ditto. I come from a farming family and a farming community and I think it's in the blood because I'm also very intensely interested in the weather.

It's raining right now but was ice until a few minutes ago, the temperature must have gone up to a few degrees above freezing - 34 or 35. Not that you care, but I do.

Yes but my whole problem with it is that caring about and discussing it doesn't change a damn thing. Yes, its 35F, so what?

My parents live in another state so it is usually one of the usual questions whenever I do talk to them.

But my Dad is obsessed with politics as well and I'd rather talk about the weather all day then get into another discussion on politics again.

My dad gets antsy when storms are imminent. He's paranoid about hail damaging his cars. He'll keep eying the radar for red spots and won't go anywhere or sleep easy if any are around. Often he'll drive the car to some cover like a car wash or parking garage and wait out the storm.
I'm content to just park under a tree and not live my life in eternal fear. If it gets gusty my dad will move the cars out from under the tree to avoid falling branches.
Weather isn't his favorite conversation topic, but if storms appear he slips into storm planning mode for his cars. He's got a single car garage and 3 cars.

I can't stand it when people bring up the weather. It always comes across as so superficial like we having else to talk about so lets just kill time with a discussion of the coming weather. You would swear its like peoples' hobby to track the weather.
