They're laying on the foreshadowing of Carol's death so thick that I wouldn't be surprised if the writers pulled a 180 and killed Maggie instead of Carol. I can see that being the shock - someone shoots Maggie in the belly and then Glenn gets killed rushing the attacker (who we assume is Negan).

I didn't really get why Carol suddenly turned into such a mega puss, it kind of bugged me.

Yikes to that lady having her entire face ripped off though, that must have sucked almost as much as Noah's death.

Seems like they are foreshadowing a couple of people's deaths.

Intense episode but I'm not all in on the 'we have to finish them!' mindset they had. Maybe ok for pushing the story but extremely short sighted. Rick killing that guy at the end of the episode really made no sense whatsoever. He should be much smarter than that.

I think she was acting?

Yeah that's how I took it for the most part. Halfway through the 'act' I basically commented that her and the redhead are basically the same person. I think Carol realized this at some point too. She was basically looking into a mirror and didn't like what she saw. That is why she started going soft at the end.

It was the right play if it was actually Negan. I dont see any downside to it. They would have already killed him if the girls werent taken hostage. The idea that everyone claims they are Negan is interesting. Usually a ruthless leader doesnt like anyone trying to use their name, but this keeps him fairly safe from assassination.

That, and it makes more sense now that "everything belongs to Negan" aka "everything belongs to the group". Like back when the diabetic lady & crew that Daryl tried to help tried to escape, iirc they were told "you know that everything belongs to Negan". It's an interesting way of running a cohesive group: everything belongs to the group, if you steal, you get your finger chopped off, and they obviously live in fear of the leader & each other, which keeps the small groups in line & prevents most people from leaving. Basically a gang.

This actually makes sense.

It's no different than why she started acting like a housewife and baking everyone cookies.

It's an act to cover up that's she's a ruthless killer while making her seem like a minor threat at best.

Right but this analysis completely ignores the fact she didn't slip back into normal carol when they were all dead. She stayed fragile. I think Fingolfin269 is correct.

Yeah, something was weird with Carol. Fingolfin269 has as good an explanation as any.

That's what I got from it: and why carol tried to save her.

Yikes, what a crap episode. That whole situation should have taken all of 5 minutes and they stretched it out with forgettable new characters that were all dead by the end of it anyway. TWD seasons should be like 10-12 episodes each. Too much filler.

Who needs character development?

To some extent it did that; to another it involved only 2 of the main characters and let everyone else take a breather.

That's how much of the character development is done, a few at a time. Carol/Morgan, Sasha/Abraham, Rick/Michonne, Carol/Maggie. Often it's 3-4 at a time for the non-main characters, with the occasional big event episode.

Good point. It's just it's usually framed in terms of "group goes out to" as opposed to "two people are caught and".

This was a bit more focused on the one event than others, that's for sure. I just laughed at the thought this was a filler episode. Filler was the one where we met Jesus, that's basically all that happened in that one.
