Finally got to watch this. Was ok; surprisingly dull for a season re-opener though. Aside from Rick, Carol, and Daryl, I really do not care enough about any of the characters to be sad when they die like this. The Beth death was a bit more effective because we got to spend half a season with her building up to it; just coming back for episode 1 and knocking off a dude does not really have the same impact.

I'm hoping they address the half zombies and whatnot next episode. Seems like there could be something interesting behind that. Also interested to see the rest of the group since Daryl and Carol are there.

Yeah, they mentioned on the Talking Dead that the bodies are sort of a foreshadowing of what's to come.

Interesting episode. Finally get something interesting from Lauren Cohan. Watching her on talking dead now and I cant stop looking at her legs

anyhoo

How the hell is someone so clean? The guy at the end looked like Jeff Probst or w/e his name is walking into a episode of survivor.

The storm and them holding the door was a metaphor for their need to stay together. If any one of them hadnt helped there they would have probably died. Daryl saved Rick earlier and I think they were trying to show how they all had a part to play and the storm knocking over all the trees and not the barn could be interpreted as divine intervention though I think she is busy promoting the next Pink Flamingoes reunion.

I missed last week, so I got caught up on both today. Thoughts:

1. The graphics are getting better. The slow-motion scene from last week's episode at the gate was pretty crazy, with Rick shooting that zombie before it got Tyrese.

2. I knew Tyrese was going to die, because the Moral Compass in this show always dies - Dale, Hershel, etc. Was kind of hoping they'd cauterize him and maybe kill off his sister. Sasha seems like the new Andrea. Meh.

3. There was graffiti in town - "Wolves are here" I think it said. There were wolves & dogs, but I think it's referring to the gang that they're going to face - the guy who had clean clothes. Someone chopped the bodies in half back in town, as well as the arms, and stowed the torsos in the truck. That's weird.

4. They've obviously been spying on the group. They know they needed water, they knew Rick's name. So they're sneaky, and they have resources - water, laundry systems, etc. I don't know what they're game is - they're obviously not cannibals, since they left the bodies behind, but they were brutal (assuming those were townspeople who were still alive). Rick's group doesn't even have water to steal, so I'm curious as to what their game is. Everyone who is left alive is an enemy to the group, they should know that by know...Sasha should have just shot the guy as soon as he showed up :D

5. I don't really care for the slow pacing of both episodes, or the artsy stuff with the 10 minutes of tree shots & light-leak effects. In the past, those moves had more of a point, but last week's episode felt like a 10-minute show dragged out over an hour. I was expecting a lot more from that long of a break, like when they took Terminus - a strong introduction to the next part of the season.

6. Darryl is now known as Earthworm Jim :awe:

Finally get something interesting from Lauren Cohan.

The accent throws me off. Same with House & Wolverine & that girl from Chuck. American English is not an accent to learn, dangit! :D

Interesting that they finally spoke the title of the series - "We are the Walking Dead" :p

^ They need to come out with a good resident evil game. Hasn't been one since Code Veronica.

Is someone giving the zombies tracking skills?

The horde finding them during the night was horrible but then again so was the episode and it was again the 99% nothing and 1% something with a new guy.

Ha, I asked my wife the same thing. "Why would the zombies be rushing to the barn? How do they know they're in there?"

I've learned to decode Producer-speak from Walking Dead. Whenever they say the new season/subseason will be "intense," "crazy," or "fast," what they really mean is that the season will consist of lame filler episodes until the final couple of episodes, where they'll hit a home run and force suckers like us to tune in next season.

I am wondering if the new group had anything to do with the bound and gaged zombie in the trunk?...

Yeah, was thinking this too. She's not quite there yet, but Andrea was so obnoxious I hope things change a bit before Sasha hits that same level of annoyance.

I actually liked this episode a lot more than the last one. It had more of the characters I am actually interested in, so that helped. Agree the zombies suddenly showing up at the barn was a bit odd, but I guess they needed to inject some drama there. Was kind of weird though with how it was edited.

New guy seems shady of course, but everyone outside of the group seems shady now. Kind of surprised they did not show the tracker guy from season 1 again; figured that would have progressed further by now. Overall, the episode was fine.

I kind of look at Sasha right now as reborn. She did hit rock bottom and on talking dead they talked about how she may have been trying to push them away so it would be easy for her to leave. I think this episode will teach them that they need each other to survive. Their biggest asset is they have are essentially trained to survive and they have some tactical assets that ANY remaining group would want to assimilate vs destroy. Ricks leadership alone and his experience as a cop would be useful to any group especially one who has the ability to wash their clothes....

I bet the dogs were released on them as a test. If they have some snipers in cover Daryl would normally be able to see them but hes so distracted that hes essentially blind.

Its about time the group comes up on a localized government. They are about to hit a very rich and powerful part of the country and if ANY parts of the original aristocracy survived with resources its that corridor. The US has a bunch of undergruond bunkers that would have housed VIPS and soldiers and that would essentially evolve into a localized government after the US collapsed probably. Now its three years later and they have combed the area for food and resources so our group cant find shit and they have spotters and cameras out to see if any assets come into their area. They would then see what they could add to their group or what dangers they pose.

I think it was just a bound and gaged person in the trunk that died and became a zombie.

ya who knows what happened to that girl. Looked like a caravan that has some trouble. One of my fave parts of the show is all the unanswered questions. Laura Cohans emotions at that point made her think of beth. Beth was taken from Daryl in the same manner and in that moment she thought about all the bad things that probably happened to the girl in front of her and her sister and the emotional toll of all the death and misery came hammering down on her at that moment and all she wanted to do was run away.

SO glad they didnt kill her or hubby then. I was totally expecting the tied up deadite would have wiggled and bit one of them on the hand or leg.

What was up with the frogs in the beginning?

I was thinking that they were poisoned... Because the ground was still wet. I think what the producers/writers were trying to imply is that it was so hot the water dried up, and the frogs died.

It's just awful. At best, any episode is 2 minutes of mildly interesting plot device, preceeded by 58 minutes of commericals and hand wringing one on ones where every character has the same overwrought conversation about the last interesting development (X # of episodes ago), over and over. The latest attempts at depth are the really lame wannabe Terrence Malick shots of the sky and trees. We get it, you watched The Thin Red Line and Tree of Life... your version still sucks. (I actually liked the Thin Red Line).

The zombies are beyond ridiculous at this point as pointed out above. The writing is just awful. It's a soap opera with a thin glaze of pseudo zombie apocalypse and gore attempting to cover up just how bad the rest of the show is.

And they wont freaking leave Georgia. If they ever do get to "DC" - I am assuming it'll be sets in GA. It's mind numbing. This show deserves real writing and a real budget based on its audience and we're getting neither.

My wife and I are just about done. The most interesting thing I saw all night was the Talking Dead reminder of just how beautiful Lauren Cohan is (she is a damn fine looking woman all cleaned up).

First thing I thought of. Rick's group is dirty and sweating their balls off in the heat. The new guy " A Friend" shows up dressed in layers, in very clean clothes, etc... Just seemed way out there.

Was to highlight the drought and to undertone the biblical theme of the episode.

I just cant believe that people havent gone bible nuts and called it the ZA the rapture.
