This new place has to be majorly isolated or off the beaten path to still be thriving. Either they are acting (which is possible, to get Rick to either let their guard down or show their intentions of taking the establishment) or they are really lucky to be that soft. That place is a ladder away from being taken over by a single person. Storing all your guns in an armory is such a terrible idea. I am actually surprised Rick and co gave up their guns so quickly. In the last like 2 years, how many times has the need for a gun arisen? And, would it have been "for your safety" if you needed to run to an armory and check it out in that situation?

I thought this same exact thing. I would have told them to go fuck themselves after everything we had been through. Maybe it is the Soldier in me, but I wouldn't have turned over all my weapons. I might have conceded a few long guns, but pistols would have stayed at minimum.

Bottom line, I think it was poor writing to have that be so "easy" in that scene.

Yeah, the way Aaron sold it I was picturing thick steel and concrete walls, not sheet metal like you'd find in a $300 DIY storage shed. Its probably thicker than that, but I thought Aaron said something like 6-8" of reinforced steel.

He just failed to say it was 1/8" thick! :awe:

if they are gonna make it work at this place then Daryl and Sasha need to be tracking outside. At the prison Daryl did his sweeps and that exactly what has to happen. Basically Sasha, Daryl, Mousey lesbo, last of the red hot asians needs to be the eyes and ears outside the camp. They can stay hard and protect the noobs.

The town is just a bunch of noobs like the priest.

I figured it out...

they are luring people into this walled off area, making them think they are safe. then the residents secretly leave at night (why so few people) and the group is forced into a death match scenario. Only, Carl sees how the girl got out and he escapes and kills the residents and then they take over this place for their own.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it has a plot purpose. It was either "bad planning" on the part of the constructors, or it was intended that way for some particular reason we'll find out later.

I highly doubt it is an error on the part of the writers/set designers. Something like that, at least SOMEONE would have pointed it out prior to construction even starting.

In terms of plot, perhaps the original construction crew actually thought it made more sense for the crossbar supports to be on the inside, as those are easier to scale up, as opposed to the outer supports. Zombies won't be shimmying up those even if they have piled up. And it is a little more challenging for humans to scale.
Would be attackers could still just as easily use a solid rope and anchor system to climb without any supports/bracing. For the less limber or less devoted, the crossbars would be easier to climb than shimmying up one of those braces.

three cars could attach ropes to the supports and start driving away tearing them and the wall towards them down.

I think those stupid flares are gonna attract too much attention from the wolves!

I love how the term wolves has cropped up. The nameless threat of humans who have goven feral. I love it!

Yeah the wall was designed very poorly no matter which way you try to swing it. The braces on the outside is dumb and the sheeting for the wall was also on the outside, thus giving people on the inside posts to climb up. So if they are trying to keep people in or out they failed lol.

Just not to shit all over the show, I'll assume they did it with the struts outside because they only planned it with zombies in mind.

Or was something being walled in?

I'm also going to guess that because of budget reasons, they didn't clear cut everything for a mile in every direction to give clear sight lines... And they didn't decide to put some battlements on for the same reason. How the hell you going to fight back if you get attacked with 20' walls (out of my ass) by anything.

And they are really haven't used Tara this season.

For the supports issue, that is true and see the point. I overlooked that idea.

Regarding the wolves: I don't think they are an actual issue. Remember, they were in Georgia near Atlanta at that gated home community, whereas now they are near D.C. Metro. I don't suspect the wolves will track that far as a threat. It's possible but I don't suspect they will be the threat.

There are other threats out there, for sure, but I don't think the threats they will face and the wolves are remotely related.

It has to be wolves. In that type of world, you're either wolves or sheep. There is no inbetween. The people at Alexandria don't understand that yet, as they've been isolated the entire time.

The simple fact it looks like it was planned entirely around survival of zombies is proof they are soft. A single car with a few explosives driven up that empty road would ruin their defenses. Not even a few broken down cars to cause it to have to actually be driven would do in the absence of some big cement barricades.

OK, I just rewatched that section and he said 15' high, 12' wide slab of solid steel, framed by cold-rolled steel beams and square tubing. Sounds more impressive than it looks, although I guess it wouldn't need to be that thick to do the job against zombies if chain linked fence can be effective at holding them off.

You would think they would have guard towers or walkway like Woodbury, and they would be constantly reinforcing the inner walls with concrete or more steel. There really must be no one in the area and very few zombies for them to feel as secure as they do.

And I think the "zombies only" defense is entirely the reason, come to think of it. Unless there is an ulterior motive, I think this community is simply a little more naive and has managed to not be challenged by humans. I suspect they've remained under the radar from the more dangerous groups who would love an idyllic community to call their own.

Perhaps their tracking of groups outside their town has been enough, and if they see someone as a threat, they don't interact with them and track their progress to the point that if they become a threat to their safe zone, they may take up arms. With distant supply runs and people tracking outside groups, perhaps they've managed that well up to this point.

If their stated goals are honest, I believe it was said they have been looking for a more grizzled outside group to join them to ensure the safety of the collective. A group like Rick's would be more than capable of providing insight into how the outside world acts and what they may need to do to prepare for the inevitable.

well, the politician lady mentioned that the entire area was effectively evacuated before the end of the world.

Yeah, she said that, but we've seen hoards of zombies in the middle of nowhere, like that farm when the b team tried to go to DC. Zombies walk around. Maybe its just coincidence that Rick's group run into big ass hoards a couple times a season and no one else has that problem. You did have a large group living in Atlanta. You had the hospital. You had Woodbury. Hershel's farm seemed fine. Terminas. All these places seemed relative safe until Rick and co showed up. :p

Chain link fence is probably more effective, as long as the post system is strong enough. Chain link allows for mass head stabbing from the inside AND it catches RPGs fired by bad humans. LOL!

Chain link also lets you see beyond the walls without requiring a ton of perches.

Regardless, this place would take half an hour to fully siege with only a few guys and a ladder. It is so incredibly poorly planned out. Let's not even get into what a few rednecks that raided gun store would do.

The whole place is so sparsely populated and without regularly-spaced guard towers that you could easily get a large armed force over the fence and overpower the populace.

A teenage girl was able to climb the wall in the middle of the day without anyone noticing (except Carl).

Yeah, but lets not discredit Carl, he's got a whole season worth of "where the hell is Carl? Did he go outside again?" under his belt, so he knows all about going outside without telling anyone :awe:

I just can't see any scenario where a place with the kind of defenses they have would last very long against even the smallest group of human attackers. It would probably do fine against zombies who just stumble and walk up against the wall, easily cleared out, but not so much against any human attacker.

Which leaves me wary over if they are hiding something.

Also, the congresswoman talked in the past tense about her husband and sons AND later told Rick she had to exile 3 men. Am I the only person who thinks there was some kind of power struggle and she kicked her husband and sons to the curb to keep in charge?

This is a TV show, so we know there will have to be some form of conflict and, as with everywhere Rick and Co end up, it is from external sources and just happens to be around when they show up.

Wouldn't you hold a.. town hall meeting, or something when a new group is invited in? Or maybe when promoting two of them to enforce the... law? Who decides the law in that place anyway?

The show may be missing some pieces as to how this would play out.

It seems clear the politician is the undisputed authority of the community. She kinda reminds me of Janeway from Voyager.
