Here is my prediction,

There was talk about a spinoff series for the Walking Dead. Carol rounds up a group of new people and they wander somewhere and find more survivors and she becomes one of the main characters of the spin off.
I thought about that too... But they did say that the other series would have absolutely nothing to do with the characters/locations that we already know.

But then again, they could've been misleading, to avoid spoilers. :ninja:
So how are they getting all this gas?

Its been what, two years, and any existing gas sitting around in random tanks is long useless varnish, and no supply line or infrastructure for new stock.
They have gas cans filled with them, which I assume is from siphoning off from cars they find. The gas doesn't go back for the same reason Daryl can poor distilled water into a car battery and it just works; they ignore a ton of realism to give silly plot devices life.
Because if they had no gas, no batteries... Essentially no transportation. It'd be flat out boring watching them walk everywhere. Or really, not be able to go anywhere, and probably just die. So, suspend some disbelief for a better viewing experience? I can do that.

You'd think they would be making heavy use of bicycles. I would.

Though even with Bikes they'd have a limited range around the prison.

Realistically, we don't know how long it has been, and without contamination (present in open air containers) gasoline could last a few years and be usable. I think it would be preserved pretty well in a cars gas tank, but them storing it in gas containers won't last long.

I don't have a problem with suspending some disbelief, except when it is used as a terrible plot device. I could see the battery being dead in the van they found as acceptable, however, them just finding one off the shelf and pouring a bit of water in it, is pretty stupid. Had they found some way to charge it that bordered on realism (like in Breaking Bad where Mr. White makes the trickle charger and they take turns cranking it for hours), I'd be okay with not dissecting it much. They could have just done it for an hour and I'd be okay with that.

We know it has been at least two winters.

But we don't know how long Rick was in a coma for. Even if it has been 3 years, I think (although I will admit I am not exactly sure) gas that is in sealed containers should be okay to drive with.

na, I Googled it, even in perfectly sealed containers, with no temperature fluctuations (e.g. underground) it's really iffy at 1 year, absolutely not at 2.

They are hotwiring cars. That shit ain't gonna happen.

My googling is showing non ethanol gas has a shelf life of a few years, if it doesn't get water contamination. As well as a few reports of a long term diesel storage, but required some additives to have the same power output as "fresh" diesel.

Finding non ethanol gas around here is difficult now. 🙂

Athough they do not seem to have a problem finding cigs.
No food, no ammo, no meds but we got gas and cigs come on in.

Actually, the show spelled it out. It had only been a few months from the shooting to the farm. Almost all gas is has Ethanol in it which attracts water and turns it bad quickly, so it would not be "okay." Even so, I'm willing to overlook it. Perhaps some chemist told them some way to reasonably restore it.

People will burn amc down if they do that kind of shit.
And what of the comic creators?

And what of the comic creators?

The show and comic book are different enough already and we have seen enough crappy endings like that so doing it for the tv show would be horrible.

Plus it would mean lori would still be alive.

Hmm.... google must be failing. I've had gas sit in a container for more than two years and still been able to use it just fine. I've also had a car sit for several years and then been able to get it to run just fine with the gas that was already in the tank. I had to jump the battery, which was dead, but otherwise it worked.

As far as logical problems in the show go, I don't have a big problem with the availability of gas / oil etc.

The gas of many years ago is different from the gas of today. Also, people usually add a fuel stabilizer to a vewhile that's going to be sitting a while. Neither of those apply to this scenario.

Guess you didn't see them convert the car to a stand alone ECU to get rid if the integrated PATS and RFID keys in less than 10 minutes 😛

Ill give them that old minivan likely didn't have an antitheft system and othercars they find keys in the ignition or on the undead previous owner.

Its not about contamination. Gasoline just naturally decomposes chemically. Just like a sealed bottle of wine will still break down.

Especially modern highly refined high octane unleaded fuel.

I think the breakdown of nonethanol gas is pretty slow. Or, at least slow enough, you will lose some MPG, but it will still function in a car. The larger (and more quick to come about) problem is water contamination.

But, this a show about zombies, we can't argue about whether their endless supply of gas is realistic or not. Maybe some gas has thicker skulls than other gas?

Exactly, a show about Zombies and people will argue how realistic is the endless supply of gas....lol!

Where are they getting their toothpaste? Shouldn't they all be incapacitated by tooth pain and decaying teeth by now?!
