The voting machines are rigged: to vote D!

Voter reports problem with ballot machine.
Sam Laughinghouse of New Bern said he pushed the button to vote Republican in all races, but the voting machine screen displayed a ballot with all Democrats checked. He cleared the screen and tried again with the same result, he said. Then he asked for and received help from election staff.

Nevada Voters Complain Of Problems At Polls

Voter Joyce Ferrara said when they went to vote for Republican Sharron Angle, her Democratic opponent, Sen. Harry Reid's name was already checked.

Ferrara said she wasn't alone in her voting experience. She said her husband and several others voting at the same time all had the same thing happen.

Here we go! And we're still a week away from Super Tuesday.

Who makes these machines again? Who programs them?

The moral of the story is that everyone should take their sweet time and carefully make their voting selection.

I personally HATE these electronic machines. I think we should all vote by pencil/scantron with GIANT ovals that one has to fill in.

What difference does it make if the machines pick the winner, all the candidates are bought with money. There are lots of choices but only only the special interests that are running.

...because the people who hacked the machines are too stupid to have the screen display something different from what is being counted?

These are Harry Reid supporters; they're just proud that this year they didn't waste the entire election cycle trying to hack the Coke machines.

My guess is they were counting on getting caught, so they could say "well we still gave people the option". That or, if the devices are designed right, there would be some sort of anti-cheat protection where it has to show up on screen.

This.

If it was done on purpose I would think someone would be smart enough to do it in the backend software, not on the main screen.
Places have had machines show R when people voted D.

I have said it before, use scantron forms. They can be counted electronicly and hand counted. Its a hard copy and you fill it out. Where I vote you can use a machine or ask for a paper form, scantron. I always use the scantron. That and the old people hold the machines up worse than a self-checkout lane at the grocery store.

I never believe these machines are "rigged". They weren't rigged when they "voted republican" and they are not "rigged" now. They just suck. How hard is it to make these machines? Its a simple selection of choices. It amazes me.

Why is it I suspect this post would have been entirely different if the machines were defaulting to all R checked? No doubt there would have been references to pigs, self hatred, and all things scatological in that case.

Tennessee had a similar problem in the 2000 election cycle. The local news ferret was demonstrating the great new electronic voting machines and she voted twice for Bush and twice for Gore. Then they totaled the votes and got three Gore, one Bush. Who knows if the machine was hacked or merely defective?

We need a national law that only Scantron machines and ballots are allowed, where the ballots ARE the paper trail rather than a print-out which might or might not represent the actual voting.

"A Clark County voting official said highly sensitive touch-screens may be to blame and that fraud is not the issue. "

Yeah right! Sensitive only to Reid's check block or the "D" check block but not the rest.

lol 'Merika and voting machines.
Where I live, we still do paper and pencil voting.

Probably this. How does US voting work? Is it like scantron cards or something? Put your name, date, and class room at the top. Fill the circle completely. Erase things completely. Do not put any marks in the bar coded area on the left side. Only used approved HB or 2B pencils. Remember the feed the cards face up.

The rules vary based on State/Locale - Where I live, you have to register* to vote in your District using your SSN and Driver's Licence # to verify and track so people can't register in multiple districts. (Party declaration is only required if you want to vote in the Primaries). You have to register beforehand (deadline is in October for November elections). Registered voters will receive a summary of the candidates in the mail prior to the election so you can see who is on the ballot.

When you get to the polling place, you sign in and your picture ID (Driver's Licence) is checked and your named marked saying you have participated. From there you proceed to the booth and cast your votes. The actual voting booths are electronic, and there is no paper besides the Roll where you signed in.

{edit} *You only need to register once in your district. If you move, you are supposed to re~register in your new area and my understanding is that a copy of your new registration is sent to the former district so your name may be removed. Any Post Office will have generic forms, and you may also register directly by stopping at your town clerk's office any time during working hours.

Because liberals only care about their rights, not people with differing views.

Sounds like an interesting system, but it would make recounting a lot harder. With paper and pencil, you just dump the ballots on the floor and start counting them again. When the system is electronic and it's selecting the wrong item, that's a completely different problem.

Actually those machines in question were imported from Canada and Great Britian!!
The ultimate irony would be if the machines were made in China or North Korea or some other place where people can't really vote. The Soviet Union had elections, but there was only 1 party you could vote for! I guess it makes a little difference, sort of like voting for Obama vs voting for Hillary.

Great, so socialist nations sending machines to decide our fate.
Though I guess it's better than getting them from China so we don't all end up voting for the unknown Chow Yun Lee that none of us heard about before the election.

This is the real problem with democracy. People are too stupid to turn a damn dial. We should have a poll test where you demonstrate your ability to use a computer.

Actually as far as I know, the SD cards don't store every voter's selections. They store a total. Just a number. So they're completely worthless for recounting or reconstructing anything.
