Somewhere a very small violin is playing a very sad song.
Oh well, the viper was really never all that and a bag of chips. Now when they were modded to all get out they were some bad @ss cars, but stock for stock, the vette is better.

You're smoking crack. Vette was only better for like 3 years during the C6 Z06 era before the '08 Viper came out. Previously til C6 Z06, Viper was king.

The '08 & '09 Viper will become hugely collectible unless the plant gets bought out and goes into independent production.

As so many of these are used as race cars I'm guessing team owners will be buying quite a few of these now.

Long live the Viper!

The Viper was never about being the best sports car ever. It was about being a sledgehammer in a field full of screwdrivers. The first generation had the formula better (before Mercedes eurofied it). Big bold looks, torque up the ass, no apologies.

The viper always scared me a bit, like I just KNEW that if I ever had one I'd kill myself in it.

I own a chyrsler dealership outside San Antonio. My business partner owns several other dealerships, one of which is the largest viper dealers in the US (#3 last year iirc). He races vipers in a viper racing league as well, so as you can imagine he is pretty intense about this subject. Ben also handles almost all of our organizational viper sales personally and typically runs a full page ad in several large national magazines. As you can imagine, he is in the know about all things viper-related.

We spoke last year about it and he told me that chrysler was in the process of selling the viper brand, including the plant, equipment, technology, etc. I just sent him an email so I'll report back to you guys on it, but I also just called my chrysler rep. He said that chrysler hasn't specifically addressed the viper in a while, but the last time they did they said that it was for sale. He's pretty new, however, and is unlikely to even know whom to call on this if asked.

We probably have 15-20 vipers either in stock or already built and on the way, so even if the plant is truly dead you can still get one. PM me for details.

Yep. The reason many people can't drive it like other cars is because it has no fancy electronic gadgets to help you drive it. It's just wide rubber and your right foot. It was an awesome beast of a car.

goodbye to the last american muscle car. :( i think the existence of the viper pushed the corvette to where it is now and for that we can certainly be thankful.

Yep. Same here. Viper is an outstanding car that requires an outstanding driver when taken remotely close to it's rather incredible limits.

ben has a 96 gts acr, it's #37 I believe. I've only seen it once. He's more proud of that than his speed racer edition ford gt.

That sounds good! Can Chrysler just sell the Dodge brand to Ford, or VW, or some company that knows how to take care of itself?

Dodge makes the only good cars in the Chrysler family, the Challenger and the Viper.

And even the Challenger as good as it looks, needs to be made a lot lighter.

they could, but dodge really IS chrysler so there wouldn't be much point. Most people have probably forgotten this, but chrysler and gm agreed to a merger last fall. They shook hands on the deal and asked the treasury for $10 billion. ben bernanke refused to put his name on the deal because 100,000 people would have lost their jobs overnight. It's probably good for me right now that they didn't close that deal because gm is cutting so many brands right now.

btw, jeep is actually the best thing that chrysler has right now. sure, the 09 ram is badass and the doge brand is strong currently, but around the world jeep has a much greater presence. plus, the wrangler in particular held up a LOT better last year than other trucks/suvs during the gas crisis. here in texas dodge still rules, however, so I hope that both brands stick around. Chrysler is pretty hard to get excited about as a brand, however.
