yes, I corrected him and said that the new body style m5's were v8's, that's why I put it in quotes. He was regardless impressed. I just hope that he made it home ok.

BTW, my father in law was with me in the car because we had just gone to pick up a pizza. I'm not sure if he's comfortable with my driving his daughter around any more, but he was pretty happy at the time to beat a viper!

They're V10s.

edit: never mind, I see you were driving an e39.

That's pretty cool. :D

However, he wasn't far off considering the previous iteration of M5 was an inline 6.

yes, that's confusing going from an inline 6 to a v8 and now the v10.

And then to a TTV8 if the rumors/rumblings are correct.

The '08 & '09 Viper will become hugely collectible unless the plant gets bought out and goes into independent production.

As so many of these are used as race cars I'm guessing team owners will be buying quite a few of these now.

Long live the Viper!

The viper is dead. Long Live the Viper!

I've read a few rumors (from individuals on forums so take it with a grain of salt) saying that the Viper plant has been sold and it will remain in production by a new manufacturer. Man an ACR sounds like a nice investment right now.

believe the rumors.

I don't know how true that is.

The next M6 is rumored to have a twin turbo V10 engine, which would suggest the M5 would have a twin turbo V10 as well, unless BMW wants to set the M6 up for their HP Warrior contender.

That said, Merc, Audi, and BMW all have said the hp wars are over and they're going to concentrate on lowering weight, and improving core performance.

Either way, a twin turbo V6 in the M3 sounds very hot to me.

(BMW said they're working on a V6, it'd be cool to stick that in the M3.)

all those fucking union workers in that pic are to blame.

You'd think materials would be the highest percentage in cost to build a car...in reality it's the pensions of those not even at retirement age that's the biggest cost.

Unions got greedy enough to demand the ability to suck out your pension prior to retirement if you get enough tenure.

It's sad a company that you see their cars everywhere today (esp the 300m, and magnum down here) needs to file bankruptcy.

Yep.

Although I was glad to see GM got half bought by the UAW. I'm not opposed to seeing employment-owned companies.

The only problem is that the union leeches are now going to leech off the government.

So.. the only plant that is producing the viper is shutting down.... what is stopping another plant from picking it up? I personally don't see it dying just yet... I think I'll wait for a more official announcement...

that made no sense. UAW is the reason why our automakers are dying, unions in general are fucking our economy.

SRSLY how can a labor rep suddenly buy out the company's workers they are just 'representing'.

Well, I'm sure you know about this already, but the UAW owns quite a bit of GM now per the government deal, while we the people own a good deal of the rest.

My comment is that ideally the employs would own the company, therefore have a bigger incentive to compete and not churn out shit cars.

There's also the concept of the Union fucking things up, something you'd agree with apparently, and so now giving them the chance to fix it by themselves.

Unfortunately, they're not going to, because they'll just ask the government for more money.
