We signed paperwork tonight to have her put down if the tests came back positive for cancer.
Is that usual?
I'm not sure what you mean. We agreed that, if she did have cancer, the best thing for her would be to put her down instead of keeping her alive, letting her suffer, just so we feel better.
I don't know what I'm going to do without my dog.
I dunno - I've never had a pet .. I just figured that the owner usually stayed with the animal when it went to sleep. That there's a form to fill out suggests I was mistaken.

It depends on the situation, and personal preferences. They generally invite you to stay, I think.

I had a beagle once. They chew every freaking thing they can get their teeth on for about the first 3 years of their lives. Never again.

Sorry for your loss though.

Yeah, females take 2 years to potty train, too. They're rough (haha) to raise. She'd chew on everything that I didn't put up when she was a puppy. Even then, some things I'd have to literally hide at the top of my closet because putting it up wasn't enough. She'd find ways to knock sh|t over to get whatever it is she wanted. I was so mad when I came home to find my favorite deck of cards in a billion pieces all over my room and her laying on my bed with a card sticking out of her mouth.

Ah, man.

Yes, the vet called ahead of time with the results and asked if we wanted to go back. He said he'd be closing but would keep the clinic open for us if we wanted to go back and spend a little while with her before he put her down. We signed paperwork ahead of time because we thought this was going to happen tomorrow morning.

I knew it would only hurt worse if I went. I also grieve privately and this is one of those times where you just don't know if you can control yourself in public, ya know? Saying goodbye isn't something I've ever been good at, either. The short of it is that I guess I'm just yellow when it comes to saying goodbyes.

sorry i feel for you i love my cats.

My puppy dog, my sweet miniature beagle, Beamer. 🙁

The last couple of months, we'd been giving her some sort of special doggie-aspirin because the vet said so due to her hip displaysia (spelling). Odd that she developed it because she wasn't a large breed. The vet said she'd probably eventually favor one leg, which she did for the last couple months. She'd hardly stand on her right hind leg which made going up and down steps more difficult.

Tuesday, I woke up to her right hind leg swollen so I called the vet and set appointment for the only time he had free, tomorrow morning. The last couple days she's only been eating about a quarter of her food and she's been pretty lethargic so I knew she was in trouble. 🙁 Through discussions about her habbits and daily activities the vet said she probably had cancer.

We took her in tonight and were going to have her stay the night because neither one of us will be available to take her in tomorrow. We signed paperwork tonight to have her put down if the tests came back positive for cancer, but the vet said his guess was just that -a guess. He called just a little bit ago. One of his patients cancelled so he went ahead and did some x-rays and I think some chem tests. My memory is too busy frolicking through thoughts of her to remember.

He found a tumor. 🙁 He said his physical exam looking for one wasn't conclusive so we couldn't have known without the x-rays. They put her down moments ago. 🙁

I've grown up with dogs and cats. I lost my favorite cat little more than a year ago to cancer and now I've lost my favorite dog to fvcking cancer.

Goodbye, sweetheart. 🙁

No smart replies here....

My condolences

Damn Nik, sorry for your loss. I lost my cat about a month ago to cancer... decided to put him down 🙁 The previous cat my parents had suffered through her cancer and was eventually put down... we didn't wait for the suffering to happen this time 🙁 I'll miss him a lot. Just remember all the good times you had with Beamer 🙂

So sorry to hear man!

Brutus isn't doing so well these days either. 🙁

Several months back he started limping just out of the blue. Took him to the vet and they X-rayed his shoulder (Right front as it turns out) and said it was arthritis. This didn't sound right to me. He was FINE that morning! So a week or so later I took him back and had a different Vet look at him. This one said it was nerve damage. No idea as to what may have caused it. Started giving him some drug the Vet said would help. NOTHING that I could notice. A few more weeks when by and I had ANOTHER Vet look at him, he agreed with the second vet, nerve damage. Nothing they could do, but he should be in no pain.

Now with in the last few days he's been whimpering a lot what he lies down or walks down stairs so I went and got some some meds and it seems to be helping. For now at least.

When I went back this LAST time the vet was going over Brutus' records and said "I see we X Rayed his right shoulder..."

Me to myself (IT was, and IS his LEFT shoulder that's giving him troubles!)

So now I guess I go back and complain and see if I can get them to X-Ray the correct shoulder...:|

I really know how it is with dogs! 🙁

SO very sorry to hear about yours!

I'm not giving up hope just yet though!

And I just dose him whenever he seems to need it.

And me too of course....

Find a purebread and breed him? That way you can have BrutusII 😀

I really really want to have one of his PUPS.

Know any slutty bitches up your way? 😉

I have had many pets in my life and it never gets any easier when this happens...we had a beagle when I was a kid, her name was Candy....my brother and I went to school one day and when we came home, Candy wasnt there, we asked mom where she was and she said that they took her to the vet cause she was sick and that the vet had to put her to sleep...I never forgave her for dong that, she could have waited 3 hours for us to say our goodbyes.....A few years ago I had 2 dogs that she was temporarily watching for me, she got pissed at me and my new wife and decided to take them to the pound and not tell us for a month....they were gone as well....havent spoken to my parents since...but i know at least you had the choice to be there or not, thats what counts....Beamer would understand....after all she knew you for many years and dogs have a way of sensing what we feel...I am truely sorry for your loss....

I feel for you Nik... I lost my baby DeeDee last year Text and my other baby Indy(lost her to cancer too) Text last August.

I know it sounds trite and you probably don't want to think about it right now, I sure didn't, but think about another pup. Here is my Kaydee and she is another friend I couldn't live without. Text I got her from the humane society and she is smart as hell and although she will never replace my old pals she has her own spot in my heart now. 🙂

Take care.
